Singer songwriter, Nick Gilder, has issued the following statement about his massive single, Hot Child In The City:
“It’s come to my attention that some Gen Z and some Gen xers misunderstand the use of the word child in a song.
This was a common usage in classic rock if you google it you will see a long list of songs using it, its wasn't about small children.
It was used in the sense of free spirited and freedom and inclusiveness in a broader sense… children of the sun. When I wrote Hot child in the City, I was in Los Angeles and in Hollywood there were many young people etc. that had gone there to pursue a dream of stardom or simply to find themselves… some did find that dream for others it was more of a life lesson but that's what make life interesting… is to go after your dreams.
I, in some convoluted way, probably indentified with the character because that's what I was doing there, and there were dangers at some level for all who did, but if you don't try you don't get!”
