Happy #WorldOceanDay. "World Ocean Day is more than a once-a-year celebration, it’s an opportunity to build momentum and strengthen commitment to protecting this vital yet all too often out-of-sight, out-of-mind marine ecosystem." - Dekota Mark, Australia, World Ocean Day Coordinator 2026 At CWSS, we support the message of World Ocean Day, officially recognised by the United Nations since 2008. The ocean regulates the climate, produces over half the oxygen we breathe, and sustains life on Earth. By working together, we can restore what has been lost, protect what remains, and ensure that future generations inherit a thriving ocean and a stable climate. New study reveals impact of extreme heat and drought on jarrah forests Research led by UWA PhD student Huanhuan Wang examined how forests across the South West of Western Australia responded to 2024’s extreme summer heat and drought and found that areas with shallow soils, rocky terrain and limited access to groundwater were most vulnerable. By integrating multiple data sources, the study identified spatial patterns of forest vulnerability that were not apparent from climate data alone. 📖 UWA impact article and link to study published in Environmental Research Letters: uwa.edu.au/news/article/2026… #ClimateScience #JarrahForest #ExtremeHeat #Drought #ForestManagement #UWA #WaterScience @SAgE_UWA @UWAresearch @uwanews
