This week we had the pleasure of hosting 85 scientists for our @icap2024 satellite conference on Cold Atoms and Molecules for Fundamental Physics at @JesusCollegeCam.
Many thanks to all the speakers, poster presenters and participants for 3 days of inspiring discussions!

This morning at #DAMOP Dan and Mehedi @mhasan137 will be presenting our work on frustrated physics in the kagome and triangular lattices at negative absolute temperature - Session G05, starting at 10.30am in room 202AB @CaMBQD @APSMeetings
Luca @lucad_96 is at #APSMarch to present our latest results from the #KagomeLattice lab! He'll discuss experiments on triangular and kagome optical lattices at positive and negative absolute temperature.
Check out his talk (Tuesday) and poster (Thursday) - details below!
Talk: Tuesday 5th March, 3:36pm, room 204AB
Session K55 Ultracold Quantum Gases
Luca will discuss the preparation of stable bosonic states in the flat band of a kagome optical lattice, highlighting a range of time-of-flight probes to observe the state of the atoms
Poster:
Thursday 7th March, 1pm-4pm, room Hall BC, poster V00.00164
Session V00: Poster Session III
Investigating the phase diagram of bosons in the triangular and kagome optical lattices at positive and negative absolute temperature.
Earlier today we got to see our new labs for the first time - we’re getting excited about the move!

ALT Four people in high vis orange jackets and hard hats are standing outside a glass building in the sunset. There are metal barriers and skips in the background to show it’s still a building site but from the outside at least it looks complete!
The ever-growing team of Cambridge @AION_Science students enjoyed meeting the rest of the collaboration and discussing their work at the meeting!
Here @DeptofPhysics we work on projects ranging from cooling and trapping cold strontium, to simulations of atom interferometry!
ALT Photograph of a group of seven students standing at the front of a room set up like a small lecture theatre, either side of a projector screen with a slide showing a photo of the Cambridge experimental team. There are lots of people sitting facing them enjoying their presentation.
We recently had our latest consortium meeting, this time hosted by our @RAL_Space_STFC team at the beautiful Cosener's House in Abingdon. We enjoyed three days of technical discussions and updates on everyone's progress!
ALT Photograph of a group of people standing arranged on steps in front of a large red brick house, framed on either side with autumnal trees. The leaves on the trees are yellow, and there are red and yellow patches in the low bushes in front of the group. The tiny patch of sky visible is bright blue and some of the people are managing not to wear coats.

We also had talks from Mehedi @mhasan137 on our work with triangular optical lattices and Georgia @GeoNixon_ on periodic driving of lattice sites. All the team had a great time presenting our posters on the kagome and quasicrystal lattices, and applications of machine learning!
ALT Photograph of Georgia standing at the front of a lecture theatre featuring towards a slide on a big projector with the title ‘local control for the Bose Hubbard model’ and equations labelled ‘where it started’ and ‘where we are going’.
ALT Photo of Mehedi standing at the front of a lecture theatre pointing towards a slide with photos of the kagome team members.
Our quasicrystal and kagome lattice teams are enjoying visiting Glasgow for the annual #DesOEQ meeting hosted by @PhysicsStrath!
We have lots of posters and presentations lined up, starting yesterday with @UlrichCamPhy discussing the latest results in the quasicrystal lab!

The lecture theatre carpet is dark grey and the walls are white panels - it’s much nicer in real life than it looks in the photo!
Bo (@bsong_fizix) is leaving the quasicrystal team to join Peking University as an Assistant Professor. We celebrated last week with cake and wish him the best of luck as he starts up his new research group!
