Apparently children willingly using social media is bad for their wellbeing but those same children being forcibly plastered all over social media for conservatives to bully is great.
Even more reason to block it !!! A child being on their phone for 9 hours and she can’t think of anything else to do but stare at a wall. No wonder obesity is on the rise in children.

We sometimes had to use a buggy for my youngest up until she was about 7 or 8 yrs old if we'd been out for a long day. She looks like a "normal" child but she has a chromosome disorder and a learning disability. We always got stares from judgemental people who don't stop to think
I'm not saying "Supernanny" doesn't have a point, but it'd be good if we stopped forming harsh judgements of people we've only briefly glimpsed. You don't know why that child might still be in a stroller/pushchair. Parental laziness may well be quite far down the list of reasons.

I'm nervous about those flags and the escalator 😱😬🫣
Norway fans are doing a “Viking Row” up the escalator at Boston’s South Station before heading to the World Cup Adding this to the list of things I’ve never seen before and probably never will again

Yrs ago I was feeling suicidal & actually ran away with intention of doing it. For some reason I stopped in a bookshop & asked the guy to recommend something "life affirming" - he gave me this. I was so furious at the ending that I shelved all offing myself plans! FUMING! 🤬😂

Not just disabled children but all sorts of disadvantaged and marginalised kids are going to be cut off from vital support
“The Royal Society for Blind Children said that social media is a ‘lifeline’ for blind and partially-sighted young people. ..we are mindful that this ban risks cutting off vital routes to connection for children who are already too often excluded.’ metro.co.uk/2026/06/15/full-…

So frustrated with parents saying just do what we did as kids. The world of our childhood doesn't exist anymore! Where are kids meant to go? Everything's shut or too expensive. Kids have grown up with the internet. It's their space and social life. It's cruel to now cut them off

I don't know if it's just a UK thing but this country really hates kids and young people. So many parents seem to take delight in going ha ha ha what will you do now?! Talk to your kids. Why is everyone always so confrontational with their teens?!

so much sympathy for today's kids. every aspect of their lives has been impoverished, there are no spaces for them, everything is prohibitively expensive, the planet is dying, they're being repeatedly infected, and the solution is apparently to further isolate them digitally.

Why are people only now realising that a social media ban for under 16s is a de facto mandatory ID check for all adults? How the fuck did you think they were going to enforce it?! 🤦‍♀️

It's not an under-16 social media ban, it's digital IDs with better marketing

People making the point that this is about creeping authoritarianism aimed at adults, which it is, but the ongoing crusade for "parent's rights" e.g. to reaffirm that children are the property of their parents and deserve zero autonomy whatsoever is also a crucial aspect of this.
🚨 NEW: Under-16s in the UK will be banned from the following 10 social media apps TikTok YouTube Snapchat Instagram X Reddit Facebook Twitch Kick Threads

Children have utterly let down to date. But what does a ‘social media ban’ actually mean? Is this really age verification for all? And what does that entail? Because on the surface this looks like rushed populist techsolutionism that will hand *more* power to the platforms. 1/

Tearing my hair out watching news today 🫠 Any journalist covering the “social media ban” but not HOW it works is miserably failing missing the story. It won’t be remembered as a policy that kept kids off SM (it won’t) - but as the policy that introduced IDs for the internet.
In reality, there is no such thing as a government ban on social media for under 16s. What does it actually mean? Mandatory ID checks on social media for every single one of us.

I was at uni when I was 17. It was bad enough being ID'd in the pubs but imagine telling everyone you weren't allowed on Instagram & YouTube 😭
🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer will introduce nightly social media curfews for 16 and 17-year-olds as part of the Government's social media ban [@thetimes]
