Over the years, I've learnt that the best, highest performing teams are those where everyone feels a sense of belonging & appreciation for the unique & different things they bring to the team. So I'm happy to post this blog & sketchnote on "things boldly inclusive leaders do". They build an inclusive culture through foundations of continuous learning, active listening, authentic communication & creating a psychologically safe environment for people to thrive: qaspire.com/what-boldly-incl…. Thank you @minettenorman for the principles & @tnvora for your powerful interpretation.

What a privilege to represent @CRHCharity at the Civic Service for the new Mayor of Chesterfield, Calle Jenny Flood on a lovely sunny day!
Proud to attend the Civic Service for Cllr Jenny Flood, Mayor of Chesterfield this morning with @CalRWade. As ever the event was well organised by @ChesBC and it was lovely to parade through a busy town centre in the sunshine. Lovely to meet @DerbyshireHS too!

I’ve thought a lot about accountability and leadership since the NHSE Midlands conference on that very topic last week. Leading is a privilege and with that comes responsibility; and an expectation that that you be held accountable.
In our final #Rewired24 keynote session @AyeshaRahimCCIO launches an equity charter following the @NetworkShuri & @digitalhealth2 joint statement yesterday. Please do sign the petition to be part of an open letter to stand up to discrimination in digital health. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

As usual from the CAL, a great and insightful resource. I can think of previous and current colleagues who fit into each category…can you?
Most qualities associated with being an effective leader are mirrored by that of effective followers. Both are committed to the same purpose. Both have obligations to the team as well as the individuals within it. Both live by shared values and standards. And both are expected to show behaviours consistent with, and complimentary to, the expectations of military service and the society we serve. Thus, it is the respective responsibilities of each role that defines the difference. An individual’s character, motivations, and experience, coupled with the environment they are working in (leaders, peers, climate, culture and task), all influence behaviour. Follower effectiveness can therefore be assessed across two continuums: the level of a follower’s engagement, from passive to active; and their ability to exercise independent, critical thinking. The result is a presentation of five dominant followership behavioural styles: 🤩 Exemplary Followers (Stars). Exemplary followers are fundamental to mission success. Responsible, motivated, and professional, they engender trust. 😤 Alienated Followers (Cynics). Alienated followers are independent and critical in their thinking but passive, or even destructive, in carrying out their role. 🫢 Passive Follower (Sheep). Susceptible followers with no sense of responsibility. They are passive, lack initiative and independence of thought, and blindly conform to others. Exploitive or toxic leadership cultures that repress individual contributions and challenge will undoubtably encourage such obedient compliance. 🫡 Conformist Followers (‘Yes’ People). Followers who are more proactive than the passive followers but still lack initiative and critical thought. 🤕 Pragmatist Followers (Survivors). Pragmatist followers act not out of loyalty to the leader, the team, or to the mission, but according to their own self-interests and preservation. #leadership #learning #leaders #leadershipdevelopment #leader #development #Followership

Love this from the Centre for Army Leaders. My style? It’s always me and I hope nuanced appropriately for the climate and context.
What’s your leadership style? Hopefully your answer is: “it depends.” All leadership styles have their respective merits & pitfalls. But the most effective leaders will be able to assess the prevailing situation and adapt their leadership style accordingly. This should, of course, be situational - where high-pressure environments and leading through crisis may demand a more ‘commanding’ leadership style - noting the likely impact upon climate and culture if needlessly maintained. Whereas adopting a more ‘affiliative’ or ‘visionary’ leadership style during periods of relative steady-state activity will likely prove most effective in the longer term. This diagram, adapted from Daniel Goleman’s 6 Leadership Styles, outlines the characteristics of the main leadership styles and the context for when and how each should be applied. #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #developingleaders #leaders #leadershipstyle

Our Anti-Racism Strategy launches today. This incredible work has been led by our RECI staff network and allies to create positive cultural change. We need to be sure that the people who have done this work get the credit. @HPottinger @RECInetwork @royalhospital
*LIVE TWEET* The Anti-Racist Strategy is now being presented. This is a huge positive for the Trust and something welcomed by all. We are now hearing colleagues stories at Board - illustrating the very reason for the strategy and our zero tolerance approach #CRHBoardJan2024
