This Pride Month, we are reminded of the brave leaders of the Stonewall riot who stood up against oppression. CalEPA is committed to honoring the progress those leaders made, and to creating safe spaces for members of the LGBTQIA2S community, now and beyond.
Many parts of California will be experiencing intense heat today and throughout the weekend. Check out CalHeatScore for cooling center locations near you.

☀️ California heat is turning up.
Higher temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illness, wildfire activity, and incidents in and around the water.
Take steps to protect yourself and others:
💧 Stay hydrated and check on your friends and family
🔥 Help prevent wildfires – avoid ALL activities that create sparks
🌊 Stay water safe and be aware of changing conditions
Stay cool and safe, California.

⚽ Play by the rules.
Campfire safety fouls? That gets a red card.
Before you build a campfire, make sure you have a valid California Campfire Permit.
Know the rules:
🟨 Keep flammable materials at least 5 feet away
🟥 Keep your fire small and manageable
🚨 NEVER leave a campfire unattended
💧 Extinguish the fire correctly: drown, stir, and make sure it’s cool and out
No fouls means you’re preventing wildfires.

About 95% of California wildfires are started by people, often without realizing it.
By changing our behavior, especially during hot, dry, or windy conditions, we can stop wildfires before they start.
Here's how you can help prevent wildfires:
🔧 Inspect equipment before outdoor work—metal on metal creates sparks
🌾 Skip mowing dry grass in the afternoon heat—friction alone can ignite it
⛓ Keep trailer chains off the ground—sparks fly when metal hits pavement
🔥 Never leave campfires, BBQs, or power tools unattended in dry conditions
Every one of us can help stop a wildfire before it starts. Do your part.

🌊🐚 Protecting our oceans starts here.
California’s 1,100-mile coastline runs along the powerful Pacific Ocean, which is among the most dynamic marine ecosystems across the globe.
We owe a big thanks to our oceans as they act as our planet's largest carbon sink, absorbing emissions and heat. But oceans aren't unscathed by this: Rising water temperatures and increasing acidification imperil ocean ecosystems.
California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment (Fifth Assessment) brings together experts and partners across the state to better understand climate-related vulnerabilities and help protect California’s coast and ocean. Together, researchers are advancing climate science and ocean research to help California prepare for environmental challenges and build long-term resilience.
💡 How can we help? Take action!
• Recycle and keep our beaches and waters clean.
• Walk or bike to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
• Share and start conversations with friends and family to preserve our biodiversity.
