🌊🐚 Protecting our oceans starts here. California’s 1,100-mile coastline runs along the powerful Pacific Ocean, which is among the most dynamic marine ecosystems across the globe. We owe a big thanks to our oceans as they act as our planet's largest carbon sink, absorbing emissions and heat. But oceans aren't unscathed by this: Rising water temperatures and increasing acidification imperil ocean ecosystems. California’s Fifth Climate Change Assessment (Fifth Assessment) brings together experts and partners across the state to better understand climate-related vulnerabilities and help protect California’s coast and ocean. Together, researchers are advancing climate science and ocean research to help California prepare for environmental challenges and build long-term resilience. 💡 How can we help? Take action! • Recycle and keep our beaches and waters clean. • Walk or bike to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions. • Share and start conversations with friends and family to preserve our biodiversity. 🔗Learn more about Fifth Assessment: lci.ca.gov/climate/icarp/cli… ➡️ Learn more about the state's work to protect our ocean and coast from our state-agency partners at @OPC_California , @TheCACoast and @CA_DWR #WorldOceansDay #ProtectOurCoast #OceanConservation #ClimateAction #California

This week, California Strategic Growth Council (SGC) staff joined community leaders and partners in the Eastern Coachella Valley for site visits and a community partnership meeting connected to the region’s Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Project Development grant. 🌴☀️ Led by the Riverside community, this work supports climate resilience efforts in the unincorporated communities of Mecca and North Shore. The Eastern Coachella Valley first received a $170,000 TCC Planning Grant in 2018, helping residents shape the Eastern Coachella Valley Action Plan for Climate Resilience. Building on that community-driven planning work, Riverside County later secured a $4 million TCC Project Development grant to advance implementation projects throughout the region. As the Project Development grant wraps up later this year, partners shared updates with residents on project progress and finalized designs during the regularly scheduled public community partnership meeting, which rotates between Mecca and North Shore. SGC staff from the TCC, Community Resilience Centers (CRC), and Community Assistance for Climate Equity Program (CACE) teams participated in the visit and discussions.
