ARSIWA turn 20 years old this year. @WaibelM09 and I have done a retrospective of the practice and case law - almost all in investment - on necessity. Necessity promised a safety valve to States for the protection of essential interests, but has failed to live up to this goal.

I wrote a short piece about James Crawford. There will be much written about what he gave to his profession and discipline, this is about what he gave to his students. I’m grateful to @opiniojuris for publishing it. opiniojuris.org/2021/06/02/v…

Like so many young international lawyers, I count myself so very lucky to have benefitted from Judge Crawford's amazing kindness & generosity. Perhaps no one has left a bigger mark on PIL in our time. Rest in peace James! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί
Pleased to give my take today on what could be a major step forward in bringing environmental considerations 'within' international trade law and ending governments' support for unsustainable fishing!

Prof Akande has edited a symposium for @AJIL_Unbound, which examines whether the @CIJ_ICJ & other int'l tribunals can make decisions on the obligations or rights of states that are not parties to the case before the court, & have not given consent to the court hearing the case‡️
New Unbound symposium is now online! The symposium on Zachary Mollengarden's & Noam Zamir's AJIL article β€œThe Monetary Gold Principle: Back to Basics” is edited & introduced by Dapo Akande. Click the link below to begin reading. cup.org/3vpmOfR
