We're a nonpartisan nonprofit advancing democracy through law, focused on voting rights, redistricting, campaign finance, government ethics and the rule of law
Elections should be determined by voters, not politicians who manipulate voting maps.
It's time for Congress to enact national solutions to put an end to gerrymandering. Here's how:

President Trump's White House ballroom project is being funded entirely by private donors, many of whom have major business interests before the government, creating serious risks for corruption. The courts must stop construction of the ballroom.

President Trump has normalized political corruption and abused public trust, including by transforming the presidential pardon power into a tool for rewarding allies. How do we fix this issue? We break it down.

The freedom to speak out and express political dissent has always been essential for the LGBTQ community. This First Amendment freedom is also a core part of our democracy that helps us protect all our other rights. At CLC, we’re working to defend this constitutional right.
ALT Pride started as a protest.
The freedom to speak out and express political dissent is fundamentally American and must be protected.
The fight for voting rights has never been linear. Every generation has faced attempts to restrict access to the ballot box, and every generation has risen to meet these challenges. This moment is no different. And remember: Your vote still matters.
When executive branch officials ignore ethics laws — including the Hatch Act — and put their personal, political and financial goals before the good of the people, everyday Americans lose faith that their government can truly work for them.

The Supreme Court allowed Alabama to use a congressional map the courts have ruled to intentionally discriminate against Black voters. In her dissent, Justice Sotomayor rightly warns that the Court’s outrageous ruling is a threat to democracy and the rule of law.
ALT Yet just as Alabama doubled down on racial discrimination, the Court today doubles down on chaos. Because I choose to defend the rule of law and the right of all Alabamians to participate equally in democracy, I respectfully dissent.

As Deputy Attorney General, Todd Blanche dropped legal investigations into crypto companies while personally holding hundreds of thousands in crypto assets. That's a conflict of interest. So we filed a complaint.

“The overall goal seems to be concealing their how they’re spending their money in a way that’s not only illegal but fundamentally undermines the transparency voters have a right to,” says Campaign Legal Center Saurav Ghosh.

Congress can and must act to enact protections nationwide against racial and partisan discrimination in redistricting by passing legislation to address the Supreme Court’s repeated undermining of the landmark legislation.

The White House ballroom project is unlawful because Congress did not authorize either the construction or the financing. The White House belongs to the government and the American people — not to the president personally. 1/
VICTORY: We successfully defended a D.C. ballot initiative adopting ranked choice voting from a baseless lawsuit. We’re proud to have upheld the will of voters who overwhelmingly passed this measure. Ranked choice voting will be used for the first time in this month's elections!
This is yet another example of President Trump rewarding loyalists with high-profile roles, raising serious corruption concerns. We flagged these risks in our pay-to-play corruption tracker when Bill Pulte was picked to lead a housing agency: campaignlegal.org/exposing-p…
Breaking News: President Trump named Bill Pulte, who runs a federal housing agency, to be the acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard. nyti.ms/43aLziF
Given the president’s apparent personal fixation on constructing the ballroom as a marker of his legacy, private donations are likely to form the basis of a corrupt bargain where special interests can purchase favorable government outcomes.

We've recently filed 3 complaints alleging committees violated their legally required reporting obligations by concealing the true recipients of millions of dollars in spending to influence upcoming elections.

Campaign Legal Center is monitoring the 2026 elections to identify and call out Hatch Act violations as soon as they happen, sending a clear message to all public officials that attempts to violate the law will not go unnoticed.

“When a super PAC fails to accurately report where it’s getting its money, that not only violates the law and deprives voters of crucial information...it could also be concealing other illicit activity,” says CLC's Saurav Ghosh.

NEW: CLC and @CREWcrew filed an amicus brief urging the court to stop construction of Trump’s Ballroom project. This pet project is being funded entirely by private donors, many of whom have major business interests before the government, creating serious risks for corruption. 1/
Meta, Coinbase, Ripple and Lockheed Martin have donated huge sums to the project — and all have significant interests before the federal government in the form of large government contracts, regulatory risk and enforcement actions. 2/

The Ballroom is just the latest example of this administration granting official benefits — like appointments, contracts and pardons — to wealthy special interests in return for contributions. We’re tracking dozens of these corrupt transactions. 3/ campaignlegal.org/exposing-p…
