The research plots of the Swift Current Organic and Regenerative Research Program have now been seeded over, ending nearly two decades of continuous organic research at Canada's only dedicated federal organic research program. #CdnPoli
The Liberal government axed Canada's only organic research program, located in Swift Current. Instead of helping Saskatchewan feed Canada and the world, the Liberals keep cutting vital programs without thinking about the consequences.

This happened despite calls from farmers, scientists, industry organizations, & the House of Commons Agriculture Committee to preserve the program. Watch this exchange from Question Period, where MP Jeremy Patzer raises concerns about the destruction of the research plots.

Thank you @JohnBarlowMP for your continued leadership on this important issue and for inviting COG to voice our concerns over the closure of the Organic and Regenerative Research Program at the Swift Current Research and Development Centre. #CdnPoli
Science, research, and innovation are critical to Canada’s food security and food production. Yet this Liberal government is dismantling the foundations of Canada’s ability to feed itself. Today I stood with my Conservative colleagues and farm groups urging the Liberal Agriculture Minister to reverse the closure of research centres and experimental farms. Closing seven sites will cause lasting damage to Canada’s agricultural research capacity and weaken food security and production. It’s time for the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to do the right thing, reverse these closures and stand up for Canada’s world-class agriculture sector.

"The Swift Current research centre, where the program is based, isn't being closed, meaning there are minimal overhead costs to the program, while the research costs rely on external grants."

Beyond providing valuable research for Canada's $11-billion organic farming industry, many of the program's findings are being used by non-organic farmers across the country to reduce emissions, improve soil health and reduce their pesticide and fertilizer usage."

"The 19-year-old program funding organic and regenerative farming practices at Swift Current, Sask., is particularly important, said Katie Fettes, director of policy and research at the Canadian Organic Growers."
