Don’t start your cold outreach to people with phrases like:
1. “I know you probably get a ton of these messages”
2. “I know you’re super busy, but”
3. “I’ll make this quick…”
4. “Are you interested in…”
5. “Do you have 30 seconds to…”
1, 2, & 3 remind people of how busy they are and how annoying these messages can be. You’re basically acknowledging that you’re trying to steal their time and saying that you won’t be presenting them with anything unique.
4 & 5 make it super easy for the prospect to say “no” immediately in their own mind. You’re practically inviting them to reject you.
Better options:
Reach out because you have a mutual friend or connection. If someone they know/like/trust told you to reach out to them, they are way more likely to respond.
Use humor or a pattern interrupt. Make them laugh and they’ll instantly feel connected and like you.
Share an insightful observation related to their work/content/actions/character. People love being recognized and talking about themselves.
