On 10/12/2025, we hosted Dr Katarzyna Stawarz (the Deputy Lead of the Human-Centred Computing Group) for our vLunch Seminar. Her talk, “Co-designing Technology for Supporting Physical Activity and Sport,” offered excellent insights into user-centred design for health/wellbeing.
On 3 December 2025, our Visual Computing vLunch Seminar, hosted by the ReSIDA group, featured Dr Sara Sharifzadeh (Swansea) presenting “Tackling Predictive Modelling Challenges in Dynamic Conditions.” A great discussion on predictive modelling under real-world variability.
On 26 November 2025, our Visual Computing vLunch Seminar featured Mr Gerasimos Katsagannis from our Medical Imaging Group presenting “Detection, Distillation, and Diffusion.” A great session exploring cutting-edge imaging and AI techniques.
On 5 November 2025, our Visual Computing vLunch Seminar featured Mr Joseph Jayakody (PhD Candidate, Birmingham) presenting “Geometric Modelling and Shape Optimisation for 3D Printing.” A fascinating session on improving 3D printing through mathematical modelling.
On 19 November 2025, our Visual Computing vLunch Seminar featured visiting academic Dr Nesli Erdoğmuș (IZTECH, Türkiye) presenting “Fingerprints: What’s There to Talk About?” A fascinating session on advances in fingerprint analysis and biometric technologies.
On 15/10/2025, we were delighted to host Dr Guosheng Hu (University of Bristol) for our Visual Computing vLunch Seminar. His talk, “Reduce AI’s Carbon Footprint – Accelerating Deep Learning Models,” offered valuable insights into efficient and sustainable deep learning.
Dr Erdoğmus leads the CSIGB Research Group, focusing on biometric systems, face & fingerprint recognition, anti‑spoofing, and multimodal signal processing csigb.iyte.edu.tr/research/
Exciting news: We are honoured to host Prof. Peter M. Atkinson (@ProfAtkinson - @LancasterUni ) as a Visiting Professor in our Visual Computing / ReSIDA group!
Prof. Atkinson is a global leader in spatial data science, earth observation, geostatistics, and AI for the environment
During his visit, he'll collaborate with our team, share insights, and engage with students & researchers on topics like spatio-temporal modelling, remote sensing, and data-driven environmental science.
Our second speaker is not new face for us, a former colleague Dr Matthias Treder of Sony Interactive Entertainment on a topic: #MachineLearning in distributed rendering and path tracing.
