New from our lab: repeated e-cigarette exposure transiently evokes arrhythmias via the beta1 adrenoceptor, consistently increases BP, changes the cardiac proteome, and persistently depresses HR and ventricular repolarization. ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.… @CIEHS_UofL @CardioMetaboSci

Really proud of Dr. Ramalingam for not only generating but also demystifying this very complicated dataset. Wishing he had been able to visit from Hungary to receive this honor at SOT in person himself.
Congratulations to Drs. Anand Ramalingam and Alex Carll, who received the Paper of the Year Award from the Inhalation and Respiratory Specialty Section of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) at their recent annual meeting.

Omega-3s reduce self-reported aggression. In a randomized trial, 6 weeks of omega-3 significantly lowered self-reported aggression scores vs. placebo. Omega 3’s are 20% of the dry weight of the brain, so supplementing may change how the brain is able to respond to provocation.

EPA just made its priorities clear. Instead of valuing the lives saved by limits on deadly air pollution, the agency has stopped counting those benefits altogether. Now it is only counting what pollution rules cost companies. 😔😔 When profits matter more than people’s lives, public health loses.

Congratulations to Brittany Reynolds, Alex Carll, and colleagues on their recent publication in AJP-Heart. This review discusses how e-cigarette constituents and related toxicants disrupt cardiac rhythm and cause arrhythmias. For more details, please see: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4146…

Few, if any, more meaningful and inspiring words have been spoken.
Dr. Jane Goodall filmed an interview in March 2025 with the understanding it would only be released after her death. This is her final message from it.
