In a national survey of general surgery residents, mentorship was associated with improved education and wellness measures; however, 33% of residents lack a mentor, and non-White and Hispanic residents had lower odds of reporting meaningful mentorship. ja.ma/4aJ0qml

After injuries, people experiencing homelessness had increased adjusted length of stay compared to housed patients. Differences in adjusted length of stay were greatest for older patients and those with minor injury. ja.ma/4bRKzDg

Substance use is a major risk factor for injury. Despite recommendations to screen all trauma patients for alcohol and drug use, rates of screening were low and varied significantly between hospitals
