Today in Cosmonaut I review @stschrader1's *Blue Power*, a groundbreaking study of American policing thru the decades, and argue that police abolition—far from utopian—emerges from and is materially grounded in the changing shape of class struggle today cosmonautmag.com/2026/06/abo…

Crane and I have a really fun discussion here on Horkheimer's evolving relationship with christianity and what a critical theory of christianity would look like (and also how much of it remains hypostasized in the South American liberation theology movements)
EP21: A Critical Theory of Christianity? Crane & Julian ( @CatholicClod ) talk Horkheimer’s 1940s read of Neo-Thomism & church history given his anti-fascist 30s polemics & neo-con 60s retreat, asking: what does a crit theory of religion look like today? patreon.com/crittheoryworkgr…

If my followers want a marxist critique of Mau's Mute Compulsion that's far more critical but also more generous than the meager Kantgelian line taken by OP below I highly recommend Hunsinger's critique here open.substack.com/pub/richar…
“Mute compulsion” does not explain why we sustain capitalism; it just describes the *fact* that we do. To take ourselves to be compelled by economic law is to fall prey to the very fetishism of capital as economic law that Marx diagnoses.

I recognize that cretinous and violent anti-immigrant politics is the future of the entire world without exception but I refuse to learn to accept it.

Lol I can't think of anyone more ill-equipped to dialogue with an open-minded atheist than an East Coast Dominican. Oh you're not convinced by the most unpleasant guy you've ever met who's doing basic ontotheology? Well what if we told you he's also funded by Palantir?
Fr. Gregory Pine did the best treatment of this question when he was interviewed by Alex O'Connor. Alex: "What if someone sincerely searches for God, but no matter what he does, he is simply unconvinced?" Fr. Pine: "That's impossible and he'd be culpable for living in denial."

Clarification for those asking. We can quibble about what funding means, but the cappuchin friars are too busy serving the poor to accept podcast invitations to launder roman catholicism as the court theology of the GOP x.com/CatholicClod/status/20…

Replying to @frm_state_farm
The TI guys like giving talks on Western Civilization at palantir conferences every once in a while, which is quite enough for me

@nonchalantly_ I think I found out about Foley through a post you made sometime ago saying she was someone who's better on marxist lit criticism than Jameson (esp on questions of racialization) and it has me intrigued

“The extent of repression that has developed since 2020 […] has created a high degree of dependency on legal defense infrastructure by partisans of these movements. […] Lawyers are essential, but they cannot be relied upon to dictate political content.”
