“Mute compulsion” does not explain why we sustain capitalism; it just describes the *fact* that we do. To take ourselves to be compelled by economic law is to fall prey to the very fetishism of capital as economic law that Marx diagnoses.

Lol I can't think of anyone more ill-equipped to dialogue with an open-minded atheist than an East Coast Dominican. Oh you're not convinced by the most unpleasant guy you've ever met who's doing basic ontotheology? Well what if we told you he's also funded by Palantir?
Fr. Gregory Pine did the best treatment of this question when he was interviewed by Alex O'Connor.
Alex: "What if someone sincerely searches for God, but no matter what he does, he is simply unconvinced?"
Fr. Pine: "That's impossible and he'd be culpable for living in denial."
