🧵 Jay Dyer TAG Refuted AFAICT, Jay never provided a argument for TAG, but simply assumes it’s true. The argument implicit in his position seems to be: 1. If the preconditions for intelligibility (laws of logic, uniformity of nature, objective truth) exist, then God exists.

Personally I think the main reason Jay uses TAG is bc it keeps him permanently on offense. He only has to introduce reasonable doubt into competing systems w/o ever having to positively justify his own, so he wins by default. But TAG itself doesn’t uniquely prove Orthodoxy.

False dichotomy. The Constitution is the highest law in principle, but SCOTUS is the final interpreter in practice. Without a final arbiter, the “supreme” text yields competing interpretations. That’s exactly the problem with sola scriptura.

I already agree the Constitution is supreme. But the real issue isnt what’s supreme but who has the final authority to define it in real time. Your sola scriptura argues that anyone holding the Constitution can interpret it for themselves, which leads to interpretive anarchy.

Protestants have a Constitution with no Supreme Court, only local courts issuing conflicting rulings. Catholics have a Supreme Court, a final ruling.
That isn’t how you define something being an authority or not. You’re confused on definitions & categories. Again, authority just means something has the right or power to set the standard or define norms. In America, the constitution is the highest legal authority. All judges & elected officials are in submission to it and bound to it. Yes, there are delegated mechanisms required to enforce this, but that doesn’t change the fact that the constitution is technically the highest legal authority in our land.

From a purely political perspective, he is correct. The judges who overturned Roe were all Catholic - not Orthodox. And they were influenced by the Federalist Society, its originalist jurisprudence, luminaries from within said society (Scalia, for example, or Bork for non-justices), and Catholic arguments against Roe (see, for example, Amy Coney Barrett being told the Catholic dogma lives loudly in her: youtu.be/9mDQM1TzlAM?is=cHfx…). Meanwhile, in Orthodox countries: Russia - legal up to 12 weeks gestation generally, 22 weeks for rape, or the whole 9 months to serious medical issues (of the unborn child or the mother, as I understand it) Ukraine - legal up to 12 weeks gestation, with broad exceptions Romania - legal on request to 14 weeks Greece - legal on request to 12 weeks, 19 weeks for rape/incest Bulgaria - legal on request to 12 weeks, longer if exceptions apply Georgia, Belarus, Macedonia, Moldova (much the same as above) I would respectfully say yall should get your heartlands in order before you try to arrogate this largely Catholic and Evangelical win to yourselves…

There is a difference. And if we're being honest, it's WORSE. You all went off on Dyer for tweeting agreement. Now you're literally propping up a MUSLIM as an authority on a CHRISTIAN writer (Origen). Y'all couldn't just read Origen yourselves? There is NOTHING Jake the Fake has to offer here. NOTHING.

I think what all the Dyerite comments are missing is the point @Acts17David is making: Jay claims he’s not under any ecclesial censure/forced retirement, and thus could return anytime. But if he actually wouldn’t return, then the implication is Jay lied about not being censured.
Jay Dyer blocked me, but make sure he sees this debate challenge on Eastern Orthodox icon veneration.

That’s like handing everyone the Constitution and expecting a functioning government. A text can be authoritative, but it cant interpret/enforce itself, hence competing interpretations. That’s why you need a final arbiter and living authority (e.g. the Supreme Court for Const.).

You can keep insulting our intelligence to make yourself feel smart, but it doesn’t change the facts, Alex. A document can be *an authority,* and bind those under it, as every American lawyer should know this, including yourself. So again, you are either completely retarded and don’t understand the American legal system, or you’re a dishonest hack. I don’t think you’re retarded. I think you’re pretty smart. 😊

This is a false dichotomy. A holy, transformed life and actively preaching the Gospel plus apologetics aren’t opposed; they’re complementary. Your life should show fruits of the Spirit so that your words carry weight. We need saints AND evangelists.

Just happens to be exactly what Dyer recommends. Zero thought on Cleave's part Btw St Maximos didn't write a book called "cosmic mystery." That's Blower's title for his half assed abysmal translation of Maximos None of these are "starter." No way this list came from his priest
Cleave blocked me the day he announced his conversion. He was recommending entirely inappropriate reading material.

Kevin J.N. Hughes (EO) in a debate about the Filioque is completely embarrassing. During the cross exam, he refused to answer questions because Alex (Catholic) was being too rude lol. youtube.com/live/3v1jTx8f6uI…

The host, James, said let’s end with a prayer and Kevin dipped as they were doing the sign of the cross. Is this the state of EO debate after Jay’s retirement?

Protestants actually think that 1500 years of Catholic theologians, scribes, and monks painstakingly preserving and copying the Bible with humble dedication and beautiful illumination was actually motivated by a conspiracy to distort and withhold scripture from the world.
Fixed it! 👇

He said "sown by men" and used it in the context of sowing seed. Orchids couldn't be sown (farmed) until the 19th century, because they're MICROSOPIC. Another attempt to not answer the Islamic dilemma DE BOONKED, LITTLE BOY! DEFEATED!
Jesus isn’t God. Jesus said the mustard seed is the smallest seed on earth The smallest seeds on earth are orchid seeds. Christians, what do you think?

Father Peter Heers believes that a catechumen, if he is blessed by his “Spiritual Father”, can lead ministries. First of all, as one would hope Father Peter knows, catechumens don’t have spiritual fathers. Secondly, a catechumen is never blessed to perform any ministry. The whole point of the catechumenate is that they are learning the faith, not teaching it! Why does an Old Calendarist have to explain this to him?

Thanks for putting this together. Yes, I have great respect for Mitch Pacwa. I would love to get to at least have lunch for dinner with him someday, if not doing a debate. I think we would both talk more slowly now than we did in the 90s and early 2000s. :-)
Fr. Mitch Pacwa was ordained to the priesthood on 12 June, 1976. So as this week will mark the 50th anniversary of his ordination, I wanted to post clips of Dr. James White (@HwsEleutheroi) sharing some positive thoughts on Fr. Mitch.
