Clustering model parameters across hundreds of synapses, we found five functional subtypes of synaptic dynamics in rodents and six functional subtypes in humans which show qualitative overlap (though based on existing data we don’t expect a perfect overlap). 4/10

I’m pretty overdue but this photo reminds me of this exciting day when I had a chance to moderate the trainee talks along with @CayaBissonnette at Centre for Neural Dynamics Research Spotlight organized by @uOttawaBMRI, & enjoy a beautiful talk by @nspruston back in September!

Great piece of work by @efharkin_ on serotonin and value encoding 👏
What do you get when you combine RL and predictive coding? The in vivo activity patterns of serotonin neurons. Excited to share a new theory and analysis to back it up! doi.org/10.1101/2023.09.19.5… With @NeuroNaud and @JCBeique in collab with @grossmancooper & @JeremiahYCohen. 🧵

Replying to @NeuroNaud
Very interesting paper, thanks for sharing! So cool that you are also venturing into the molecular world and building a bridge to the circuit level.

Part 2 of my PhD finally published! w/@ranczlab & @ZhiwenNeuron How do feedforward and feedback connections target L5 neurons? 🧵 TLDR; Dendritic targets are tightly specified, but may surprise you. “FF = basal, FB = apical tuft” is not a universal rule! bit.ly/tL5b

How can individual neurons learn to associate events that don't happen at exactly the same time? 🤔 Léa provides a mechanistic answer: synaptic loading and unloading of ER calcium stores. 😲

Few-shot plasticity in the cortex unfolds with big calcium events. With these rare events, calcium stores act as temporal buffers, extending the timescale for associating pre&post activity to seconds. But there is much more in Léa's work. Check it out!
