This week’s Black Publishing History shoutout is for Virginia Hamilton! In 1975, for her YA novel M.C. Higgins, the Great was also the first book to ever sweep the Newbery, National Book, and Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards. An icon!

A lot of times I steal the plots of things I really like? Not the entire plot, obviously, but I feel more creative being like "oh there's a curve here and a breakup here" while reading the plot summary for Bridget Jones than with like Save the Cat, even if it's probably the same
