1) Excited to share our latest research uncovering a novel conformation-specific binding site for propofol in the voltage sensor domain (VSD) of HCN1 ion channels.
science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…
2) This work not only advances our understanding of HCN channel modulation but also lays the groundwork for developing isoform-specific analogs of propofol as targeted analgesics.
A huge thank you to the talented team of collaborators.

Happy to introduce DeFrND: designer peptide scaffolds to enable detergent-free reconstitution of membrane proteins with native lipids into nanodiscs for biochemical and structural studies. Let me know if you would like to try it.

“One major barrier to entry into new markets is the requirement to see the future with clarity. It has been said that to foretell the future, one has to invent it. To be able to invent the future is the dividend that basic research pays.” Wong 1996

Structures of channels in Open conformation are rare. Thrilled to share our latest manuscript..
Structural basis for hyperpolarization-dependent opening of human HCN1 channel disq.us/t/4p78xec
Perhaps the most unexpected feature of the structure is the helix-coil transition at the electromechanical coupling interface. Coincidentally, in the dark ages, before we had any structures of ion channels, such a model for voltage-dependent activation was considered!!
There are other interesting structural changes associated with hyperpolarization-dependent opening and future studies will hopefully shed more light on the role of these structural transitions on channel gating.
