Disgusted by the media frenzy based on a spurious statistic that calls into question the integrity of the Charities Directorate. You deserve better. But that's how conspiracy theories begin. Here are some other facts you may want to read ...

WE CFO Victor Li's answers to the Ethics Committee. How does one skip questions? Signed but no role in CSSG, in budget, spending. Yet reconciled the books for multiple charities and private Kielburger business. canadaland.com/we-cfo-risks-…

Reed Cowan, a former member of WE Charity advisory board, is speaking to the ethics committe. He describes raising money on behalf of his deceased son, Wesley. He said he repeatedly asked for an accounting of where the money went, and never received that information.

Also @edelmanCanada finds "information bankruptcy". Biggest drop in trust among informed segment (your HNW donors?). Charity CEO's called to stop the spin, earn trust with "unvarnished reporting". Misinformation feeds mistrust. edelman.ca/trust-barometer/e…

Loved today's @TheCurrentCBC interview with @gatesfoundation. @mattgallowaycbc questions the legitimacy of philanthropy. Covid is an opportunity for foundations to show their unique role. It's been the Gates Foundation's finest hour. Learn more.
Golden oldie on endowments ... far better ways to achieve impact that smart donors know. Canadian philanthropist Seymour Schulich brings his business savy to giving intelligently.
Thank you @MPNLCarleton for giving my rip, err article, on endowments a second life. It's intended to provide perspective and spur debate! Folly? What no large charity or university fundraiser wants to read carleton.ca/panl/2021/folly-…

@LizDozier and @LisaPilar‘s discussion in @Philanthropy is welcomed progress, focusing on impact evaluation in contrast to the drone about overhead and salaries. The idea of analysing how much “good” is created from donor dollars is exactly where the conversation needs to move 1/

The authors suggest alternative measures to impact. If staff is the metric, how do they change outcomes? The charity’s relationship with the community or its grantors – how does that change any outcomes? Or learning, has it improved programs to increase the amount of change? 6/

CN’s new impact metric looks at the final result of these factors. They are the first to admit it is not perfect, but it is a great step in the right direction towards measuring lasting impact – exactly what the authors, and hopefully most donors, are looking for. 7/7
Getting lots of requests from charities to learn more about how they can improve their results reporting. Here's the why: in conversation with @DSC_Difference "Informed donors strengthen philanthropy". Here's to big improvements in 2021.

The lack of good data in T3010 forms cripples all Canadians understanding of charities. Private foundations receive generous tax concessions in exchange for providing a social benefit. @ReportCharity article raises disturbing questions about a few.
