Honored to call Ed Catmull, co-founder of @Pixar, one of our @UtahCoE alumni. The @uofu and our college played a key role in shaping his extraordinary career. Excited to teach the next generation of engineers inspired by Ed’s legacy and movies!

ELON: THERE ARE NO LORDS AND PEASANTS AT TESLA
"I actually know the people on the line because I worked on the line, and I walked the line, and I slept in the factory, and I worked beside them.
So, I'm no stranger to them.
There are no lords and peasants.
Everyone eats at the same table.
Everyone parks in the same parking lot."

Happy #NationalHigherEducationDay! It’s a great opportunity to look at how the higher education institutions across the state of Utah improve the health, happiness and prosperity for the people of Utah.

😳🤩🤯China is building battery plants far beyond levels needed to meet domestic demand for electric cars and grid energy storage, underlining vast state subsidies and unchecked bank lending.
Production capacity at China’s battery factories is expected to reach 1,500 gigawatt hours this year — enough for 22mn EVs — more than twice demand levels, forecast at 636GWh. @CRUGROUP
Today, we commemorate the life of Magnus White, a 17-year old cyclist who died tragically when he was hit by a car while cycling in Boulder. Our hearts are with his family and the entire US cycling community.
Please remember to give cyclists space as you drive.
My take - "next gen" Tesla model that uses parallel convergent manufacturing and other advanced manufacturing processes will start production this year. It's called "cyber truck". @teardowntitan
An electric car requires 6X more minerals than a conventional car.
A typical 1,000 lb electric car battery contains:
190 lbs of graphite
130 lbs of nickel
90 lbs of copper
60 lbs of cobalt
30 lbs of lithium

A full tank of gas weighs ~100 lbs on average, and an average car will use over 50,000 lbs of gas over its lifetime. Ni, Cu, Co and Li are not minerals... and are all highly recyclable.

Tesla reported 18% QoQ delivery growth, but some consider this a miss because Wall Street expected ~22% QoQ growth. YoY growth was 40% and would have been 48% if Shanghai wasn't shut down in Q2 due to Covid losing ~70K of production - close to guidance of 50% CAGR. @elonmusk
The car on the left has a gas engine and gets 20 MPG. It has 21 miles of electric range. It gets a $7,500 EV Tax Credit.
The car on the right is ELECTRIC ONLY and gets 113 MPEe. It has 330 miles of range.
IT DOES NOT GET A $7,500 EV TAX CREDIT.
The @IEA’s bombshell new report on renewables has incredibly good news.
For example, solar is undergoing a mega boom & may surpass coal by 2027
Below is a 🧵 on genuinely good news on green energy from the IEA & beyond (1/22)
