ALT Postdoctoral position advertisement Symons Lab, UC Irvine Aquatic Ecology The postdoctoral scholar position is in aquatic ecology, studying temporal variation in mountain lake plankton communities, and the response of lake food webs to interannual variation in climate. Along with collaborators at UC San Diego, we have been collecting long-term data from lakes in the Sierra Nevada, and part of this position would be to manage the long-term sampling program, analyze survey data, and conduct field-based studies and experiments based on findings and the candidate's interests. The successful candidate will ideally have experience conducting lake surveys (physical, chemical, and biological), and have interests related to spatial / temporal beta- diversity, response of food webs to shifting environmental conditions, or resilience/resistance to extreme events. due date: December 1, 2022 Start date: Flexible, between January 2023 – March 2023 https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF07952

ALT The Little Ecology Group seeks a PhD student interested in community ecology, landscape ecology, and/or ecosystem ecology to start in summer or fall 2023. The position will focus on ecosystem functioning, resource subsidies, and community assembly in landscapes, including at least two of the following: fieldwork based in British Columbia, with a focus on watersheds; laboratory or field mesocosm experiments; geostatistical modeling of ecosystem function; and data synthesis. Within this framework of topics and approaches, the group leader Dr. Chelsea Little is excited to work together with students to develop research ideas that inspire them. The PhD student will also have the opportunity to work on collaborative projects in the Little Ecology Group, and potentially external collaborations as well.
