My dad used to tell: "When government wants to hike petrol prices by Re.1, they would hike it by Rs 2. Reduce it by Re. 1 if people outrage. People are happy they could reduce it and Gov also fulfil their objective." Thats a Win - Win! I see the same thing play out in taxation.
