The whole case for sovereign AI in one press release. The US just demonstrated it will flip the switch on frontier access with zero notice and no explanation. If you're building anything downstream of a US frontier model, you watched your dependency get proven live.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Indian worker Vipin Kumar has been awarded honorary citizenship by the city of Craiova, Romania, after he jumped into an icy lake and saved the life of a 5-year-old girl. 🇮🇳🇷🇴 For nearly 30 minutes, he held the child above freezing water until rescuers arrived. This is the side of Indians the world rarely sees in headlines: courage, sacrifice, compassion and humanity. Yet stories like this seldom receive the attention that anti-India narratives do. No coverage from Western media outlets. As India's envoy noted, Vipin's actions embodied the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam "The World is One Family." ❤️

Modi remains silent when his voice is needed the most. Chamchas of the government spin it every time saying it's a 'masterstroke' because he is going to do something at a future date that we have not understood yet. India is not a Friday episode of Big Boss where a 'twist' and 'element of surprise' is needed to shock the country with 'decisive moves' that can then be packaged into reels set to Dhurandhar music. It is not Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan who does 'Pariksha pe Charcha'. It is Modi. Where he directly talks to students year after year - telling them how to deal with stress and prepare for board exams. So when the exam papers leak, why is Modi not talking to his beloved students? Mooh mein dahi kyu jam gayi? Everyone is always talking about how Modi has increased India's stature in the world. That world leaders respect him. Fair. So what use is that increased leverage and stature if he can't open his mouth when Indian nationals are being killed trying to source oil/gas which is invaluable for the country at this moment? Why is some babu issuing statements on it? PM Modi's word carries weight. Chamchas have themselves told us this over the years. That is why Modi does Pariksha Pe Charcha and not the Education Minister. That is why Modi inaugrates every big and small project in the country. That is why Modi meets the armed forces every Diwali. That is why Modi announced demonetization. That is why Modi is going around the world meeting leaders. It is the classic Bollywood syndrome. The hero cannot appear to be vulnerable or weak. For BJP's domestic politics, it is important that Modi has the 56-inch image all the time. Else his ability to garner votes diminishes. And he is their superstar. That is why all the good things must land on his lap. Modi hai toh mumkin hai. But there always needs to be a Bakra for all the failures, whether it is the Health Minister during covid, Education Minister during exam leaks, or Railway Minister after accidents. Because the hero cannot fail, else the picture will flop. Modi centralizes praise, and decentralizes criticism. Silence can sometimes be strategic, but at other times weakness, and on certain occasions, cowardice. Speak up, Mr. Prime Minister.

My point is that I understand when #India doesn't name the perpetrator when it condemns the Israeli bombing of Qatar. I understand when India doesn't name when it condemns the Russian attacks in Ukraine. I also understand if India doesn't want to name when it condemns the Iranian attack on Persian Gulf monarchies. That's strategic balancing. But I don't understand why India doesn't name the country that fired missiles at vessels carrying Indian nationals, and killed three of them, in India's neighbourhood waters!

As questions mount over the quality of the newly inaugurated Mrinaltai Gore Extension Flyover, an internal civic vigilance inspection report of January 14, 2021 & also it’s compliance report of June 1,2021 which I accessed has revealed that inspection officials had flagged multiple quality control lapses, structural defects and record-keeping irregularities during the construction of the project back then. The vigilance report paints a picture of poor supervision and inadequate quality assurance at various stages of execution, with observations ranging from surface cracks and honeycombing in piers to failed concrete strength tests and missing quality records.
Amid criticism on social media over the riding quality of the newly opened extended stretch of the Mrinaltai Gore flyover in Goregaon (W), Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Tuesday said the construction quality of the structure was satisfactory after conducting an on-site inspection, while directing civic officials to complete minor finishing works. She instructed officials to remove minor bumps and rough patches, improve the road edges, install additional directional signage and develop greenery along both sides of the flyover through vertical gardens or other landscaping measures.

The most spectacular economic miracle of the last 500 years occurred as food consumption dropped from 80% of income to 3%. Your ancestors spent virtually every waking hour and every earned dollar feeding their families. Today you casually toss organic blueberries into your cart without checking the price. This transformation didn't happen because governments subsidized agriculture or bureaucrats planned better crop rotations. It happened because private property rights allowed farmers to capture the full value of their innovations, spurring relentless productivity gains. Consider what free markets accomplished: wheat yields per acre increased 10-fold since 1800. Corn production exploded 6-fold per acre since 1930. The price of basic foodstuffs, adjusted for wages, fell by 90% over two centuries. Each breakthrough, from the steel plow to hybrid seeds to GPS-guided tractors, emerged from entrepreneurs risking their own capital to solve real problems. The profit motive drove farmers to maximize output while minimizing inputs. No central planner could coordinate the millions of decisions required: which seeds to plant, when to harvest, how to transport goods, where to build storage facilities. Market prices transmitted this information instantly across the globe, connecting Iowa corn farmers to Tokyo consumers without a single bureaucrat involved. Politicians love claiming credit for "feeding America" through agricultural subsidies and price supports. Yet these interventions consistently reward inefficiency and punish innovation. The real heroes remain the anonymous farmers and inventors who transformed scarcity into abundance by following price signals rather than political directives.

One distinct disadvantage India has compared to its peers when it comes to manufacturing is the cost of industrial power. A factory in India needs to pay more per unit than its counterparts in other Asian countries. This MUST change and one way to do it is by eliminating cross-subsidies i.e. industrial consumers should not have to pay more to fund cheaper power for subsidized agricultural consumers, for instance. The government wants to do exactly this. They propose the total elimination of all cross-subsidies in 5 years in the upcoming Electricity (Amendment) Bill. This is one of the several power sector reforms being proposed in the bill.

Here’s a radical idea: arrest the minister every time a substandard road is inaugurated. If the gun is on the head of the boss, only then does he have an incentive to keep middlemen and contractors in check.

Our family lost ₹5 lakhs in an online financial fraud few years ago. It takes less than 7 seconds to execute an online transaction for a scammer. When we complained on the Cyber Crime helpline immediately, it took them 7 days to just assign the nearby police station that is walking distance from my home. I went there everyday but the officer wouldn't 'start' till the case was assigned to him. By then, the money trail had been lost. The fraudsters had transferred money to different bank accounts (in West Bengal) and taken out cash through ATMs. It was all over before the case was even "assigned". That is the 'law and order' situation in India in the 21st century to deal with crimes that take place in 'real time'. Let's come to the telecos now. Do you know any scammer can deactivate your number from anywhere? All they need is basic details like your full name, date of birth or certain digits from your Aadhaar. Data sets that are widely leaked and available. They called Vodafone and claimed that their phone had been lost/stolen. So Vodaone does its "verification" and turns off your number. It is done so you can't receive an SMS regarding a fraudulent transaction that has been done. Else you might alert the bank. While you try to figure what suddenly happened to your SIM, everything is done within minutes. When our number was deactivated the first time, we alerted Vodafone and told them no phone had been lost. That night, only a payee had been added (we found this out much later) and no transcation had been done. And the bank rules state a 24 hour cooling period for a newly added payee. But it was weird enough to us that our Vodafone number had been deactivated out of nowhere in this manner. When we spoke to Vodafone, we told them do not switch off the number if you get any such request in the future. Since we have not made it. Please confirm with an alternate number before you take any action. But the next night, the number went off again, and this time, the transcation was executed. Vodafone didn't call the alternate number. They said this is their process. If someone calls and gives the verification detail, they have to shut the number. And that is how we lost the money. Despite telling and begging them to do one additional step since something was off. Moral of the story: both the telcos and the police will do jackshit. You are on your own. Please please please take precautions. Enable 2FA on every mail and banking account. Especially with family members and elders who aren't that tech savvy. You have no idea how sophisticated some of the new scams are.

My father gets a call from a fraudster pretending to be a Blue Dart delivery guy. The guy names some client or references some real documents, so my father thinks it is genuine. He asks my father to press some number with * and # on his Android phone. My father starts typing and then midway realises that this is shady. So he cuts the call, blocks the number and calls to tell me what happened. My instinct tells me that it was an attempt to activate call forwarding or some such, so that the fraudsters can get access to OTPs to execute a transaction. (Or it could be something else? So I need to call Jio and find out if any activity has been done on that number.) I call @JioCare customer support in panic. And then… I’m just talking to an automated machine for the next ONE HOUR. There is no way to get in touch with a human. If you think I’m making it up, you can try it yourself. I tweet to them. I DM them. It’s been over 10 hours and I still don’t have any reply from anyone at Jio. Now think about this. It’s a game of seconds and minutes. That is how much fraudsters need when they have access to your information. It’s all about executing that one transaction. You can lose lakhs of rupees in an instant. I know this because it has happened to people around me. And in that moment, I couldn’t reach Jio for hours. If I lose money through a financial fraud, will @reliancejio pay for it? What is the point of “Customer Support” when there’s simply no support available when you need it? Nothing has happened so far (thank god), but I know for sure that there’s zero trust I have in Jio to help me in an urgency. Our systems and processes are simply not ready or prepared to handle such issues. Neither on the telecom side, nor on the police or cyber crime side. You will be on your own. If you have parents or elders at home, please do tell them about frauds like these, and please please activate 2FA on their mail and banking accounts. It may seem like one needless extra step but it could prove priceless in a moment like this.

Yes we are now ripping India off ! That is exactly what Trump meant ! Capital, Investments are now flowing from Global South to Global North ! It’s Bizarre but its happening folks ! America is draining sucking India like a blood bag 🩸! America is Draining capital from India, targeting its Capital surplus, Trade Surplus, Foreign Exchange and aim to make it captive buyer of US Energy & Defence, Technology supply chains as a vassal state. So that America could re-industrialise, gain strength at cost of India’s growth. Same is happening to Japan, Korea & even Europe but then those are developed countries while India is not. Its called Predatory Economics ! America has just flipped the whole thing on its head and it has been met with meek resistance from Indian Elite be it political or corporate. They are more than willing to honour new Terms & Conditions imposed by Washington to protect their businesses, profit lines, leverage & power !
President Trump: “For years, India took advantage of the United States... They charged us tremendous tariffs and paid nothing... Now it is the exact reverse and we are making a lot of money with India.”

Looks like PTI is leading the charge to try and start a dialogue with terrorists. The brainlessness on display is appalling. But it all seems orchestrated. One can understand an RSS guy getting it all wrong, but a former army chief? 🤯🤬 the level of ignorance, cluelessness, wishful thinking, delusions of peace, utter lack of empiricism, total absence of knowing the mindset of an enemy country and its people, and the brain fade that makes these people think that people are different from their states. On the bright side, they will get invited to junkets and can travel the world preaching peace which will remain elusive and illusory.
STORY | Ex-army chief Naravane backs RSS leader's remarks on dialogue with Pakistan Former army chief Gen (retd) Manoj Naravane supported RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale's stand on the desirability of willingness to have a dialogue with Pakistan, stating that friendship between the two peoples can lead to better bilateral relations.
