This week, @ChipKahn and @UCSFMedicine’s @Bob_Wachter discuss whether AI will produce a different kind of doctor in the future — a “clinician curator rather than a clinician-diagnostician.” The answer could define the future of medicine and the doctor-patient relationship: on.kff.org/43jh4XK

I interviewed John Halamka, President of the Mayo Clinic Platform, about whether AI is disruptive or just more incremental change. Spoiler alert: His experiences show it’s disruptive, in a good way, for empowering providers and patients. Link to listen: on.kff.org/4tT8pXG

As of Jan 1, I’ve retired as CEO of FAH—but not from health policy. I’m simply shifting platforms, taking on new challenges, and finding new ways to make a difference. Starting Feb 25, I'll be contributing as a:    ➡️ Visiting Sr. Fellow @AEI  ➡️ Sr. Fellow @KFF (hosting a new podcast)  ➡️ Scholar @USCSchaeffer  ➡️ Helping launch a new institute @TulaneSPHTM    Here’s to 2026: new ideas, more writing, & a podcast mic instead of policy memos. Stay tuned!

The health security of working families will be threatened if Congress fails to extend the health care tax credits before open enrollment on November 1. Premium notices are being sent, and Americans’ costs will go up if Congress does not act now. ➡️Time is of the essence: protect working families, keep costs down, and extend the health care tax credits. fah.org/blog/americans-costs…

Insurers are costing Americans billions of health care dollars without improving care, and No Surprises Act IDRs show that. IDR disputes are necessary because insurers have long failed to pay doctors and hospitals the fair cost of needed care, and billions of dollars identified in this article simply reflect what should have been paid for services without a lengthy and expensive process in the first place. Read my full statement at fah.org/blog/fah-statement-o…
In their new Forefront article, Jack Hoadley and Kennah Watts of @GtownCHIR discuss how the independent dispute resolution (IDR) system has added at least $5 billion to overall health system costs since its inception, prompting the question of whether steps should be taken to reduce IDR use and the size of the awards and what policy levers are available. healthaffairs.org/content/fo…

The “phantom enrollees” debate is a distraction & robust program integrity measures in place make the issue yesterday's news. The need is too great & the issue too important to base the extension of tax credits debate on an outdated concern. For more➡️fah.org/blog/moving-beyond-p…
