I don't know how many times it has to be said, but work requirements don't work. Research evidence from @ChloeNEast & Lauren Bauer. (@hamiltonproj): hamiltonproject.org/publicat…
New reports that Republican lawmakers are considering further expanding SNAP’s harsh and ineffective work requirement to apply to parents of children 7 and older. This policy won't support work—but it will hurt kids & make it harder for low-income families to afford groceries.

I have heard from multiple sources today that lawyers who provide Know Your Rights presentations in ICE detention centers have been kicked out by @ICEgov. These presentations are often the only way people in detention find out details about the process they’re going through.

Refugees go through literal years of vetting. They are by far the single-most vetted population of immigrants out there, getting *substantially* more attention from law enforcement before approval than people getting green cards. This does not make us safer or better.
Scoop: WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump administration cancels travel plans for refugees who have already been cleared to resettle in the US.

To be crystal clear: the act of treating certain populations as *outside* the jurisdiction of the law so that killing them is no longer a crime is straight up Nazi jurisprudence. That's not a slur, that's an historical fact.
It will be very interesting to see how federal prosecutors seek the death penalty against undocumented immigrants when undocumented immigrants are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.

Leaked documents from the Trump admin show that ICE wants four new detention centers with 10,000 beds each, and fourteen smaller facilities with 700-1,000 beds each. That would likely mean tens of billions in taxpayer funds sent to private prison companies. They are salivating.

AOC: "I want folks at home to look at what members of Congress are invested in private prisons companies, and look at the votes on this bill. It is atrocious that people are lining their pockets with private prison profits in the name of a horrific tragedy."

It's gotten ZERO attention but this law authorizes state AGs like Ken Paxton to seek court orders forcing the executive branch to detain and deport specific people, overturn individual humanitarian parole decisions, and most worryingly, cease issuing visas to entire countries.
264-159: The House passes the Laken Riley Act, which would require DHS to detain undocumented immigrants charged with theft-related crimes. 48 Democrats voted with all Republicans present. The measure now moves to the Senate, where at least one Dem senator has backed it.
