Well, the results of the Front Range Democrat passion project are in, and itโs an absolute trainwreck. Colorado Parks and Wildlife finally had to put down another wolf after it went on a multi-county, 24-victim sheep-slaying spree. Turns out, forcing apex predators into ranching communities from an office building in Denver doesn't exactly make for a Disney movie.
Let's look at the "success" of this taxpayer-funded disaster:
โ The Body Count: 15 wolves are already dead. We are looking at a 40% mortality rate for the first batch and over a 53% mortality rate for the second.
โ The Cost: It has sucked up millions more than voters were lied to about in 2020. Rancher compensation claims are so high they broke the budget, forcing CPW to strip funding away from actual, functioning wildlife conservation programs to pay for it.
โ The Strategy: The state is now legally barred from using taxpayer money to buy more wolves. Not that they could anywayโliterally every single neighboring state has told Colorado to pound sand when asked for more.
But don't worry, Governor Polis is on the case, releasing a statement blaming the wolf for "choosing" to continue to depredate. Yes, really. Because when a predator acts like a predator, it's the animal's fault, not the out-of-touch politicians who forced them into a completely incompatible environment.
This is what happens when virtue-signaling policy beats actual ecosystem management. Colorado ranchers and wildlife are paying the ultimate price for a radical partisan experiment.
