If you ever wonder what it took to run tournaments over 10 years ago in South Africa.
Back in 2014, to run and broadcast a tournament for Call of Duty online.
I used to have to drive to MWEB offices in CPT to setup 8 consoles, the broadcaster station, run tests, host the matches (because host advantage was a major problem), & then run the entire bracket (32 teams) before reaching the semi-final.
When the matches were finalized, I then had to change the on-screen assets to match, and then host solo broadcast commentate those matches while posting on social media.
Then once it was all done, likely around 11/12 at night, pack up everything and drive home in the dark for around an hour.
I'd drive home and think to myself what an amazing opportunity that was to put our player base in the spotlight. The players competed for the sake of it, the effort to do it was because it provided visibility on a scene that was not given any before.
