This week, @Makerere University School of Public Health, under the Cluster of Research Excellence for Preparedness and Response to Pandemics and Shocks (@CoREPRePS), held dissemination workshops in Mubende (15th October) and Kasanda District (16th October 2025) to share findings from the study titled “From COVID-19 to Ebola: Lessons on Maintenance of Essential Health Services and Implementation of Public Health and Social Measures.” This study, supported by @GovUganda through @RIFMakerere, compared disruptions to essential health services (EHS) during the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent 2022 Ebola outbreak in the districts, drawing on HMIS data between 2018 and 2023 and insights from 30 key informant interviews and 10 focus group discussions.

— What a timely reflection on adaptive health systems in times of crisis: "From COVID-19 to Ebola: How did lessons on maintaining essential health services during the COVID-19 pandemic inform the Ebola response in Uganda?” @stevenkabwama, a Research Associate at @MakSPH and PhD student at @karolinskainst, compares Uganda’s response to COVID-19 and the 2022 Ebola outbreak during a plenary session at the close of Makerere University’s Research and Innovation Week 2025. He has noted that both outbreaks triggered similar public health measures-fear and uncertainty were widespread, movement and gatherings were restricted, and enforcement of control measures was common. Authorities provided infection prevention materials and food support and relied heavily on radio as a key channel for risk communication.
