Death words in our offense:
โ โSet it up.โ
Offense starts when we gain possession, not when everyone gets organized.
๐ Shoot It.
๐ Drive It.
๐ Move It.
Advantage basketball > waiting basketball.
The Brush Cut helps create two key offensive pillars:
1๏ธโฃ Create Gaps
2๏ธโฃ Generate Paint Touches
When timed correctly, the cutter brushes the defender and opens a driving lane for the attacker to get downhill.
Paint touches lead to rotations, layups, kick-outs, and fouls.

Iโm thinking about a FREE clinic on the 6 Pillars of Modern Basketball and would love your feedback.

Drive & Kick isn't about getting a paint touch every time.
It's about knowing what to do when you DON'T get one.
Bounce out. Retreat dribble. Create a new advantage.

After 2 weeks of satellite camps & 3v3 leagueโฆ top 3 motion offense killers I see routinely (regardless of level)
1) SPACING
2) Cutting without purpose
3) Over-Dribbling
2&3 kill #1. Players MUST understand proper motion spots to fill, when/where to cut & dribble penetrate with a purpose.
ZIPPER 2
1๏ธโฃ Dribble to the wing
2๏ธโฃ Use the zipper cut
3๏ธโฃ Blur cut in front of the ball
4๏ธโฃ Attack the gap downhill
Simple action. Big driving lane.
The best offenses track paint touches obsessively because most elite offense begins with collapsing defensive structure. A paint touch forces the low man to rotate, weak side defenders to stunt, and perimeter defenders to shift their positioning. One drive can trigger 3-4 defensive reactions before the ball is even shot.
This is why spacing matters so much. Dunker spot positioning, shake action, slot lifts, drift spacing, and relocation shooting all exist to punish help defense once the paint is touched. Basketball at the highest levels is often about forcing one defender to make two decisions simultaneously.

This should be shown to all youth teams. Fits todayโs offensive concepts of .5 decision making: shoot it, drive it, or move it on the catch. Create a paint touch, kick out, move it 2-3 x, force a long closeout, attack downhill, rim finish.
๐ โWaveโ teaches players how to create offense through spacing, timing, and smart movement.
Swing it. Lift it. Attack it.
No standing. No overthinking. Just teaching players how to play together within concepts.
Never understood H.S. coaches who ignore freshman or JV programs.
Thatโs the future of your varsity team.
Then they complain about no depth, culture, or players ready for varsity.
If you only coach varsity, youโre not building a programโyouโre just coaching a team.

Like this option a lot can work well with DDM and Drive and Space teams because as I have said it is organized penetration system and any common actions can be used to flow into these conceptual offenses.
to Middle School Parents:
Not one time during my tenure with Mater Dei Basketball, while it was a powerhouse, did myself or anyone else ask an incoming freshman: What club do you play for? How many games did you win? How many points did you score?
Either you arrived ready to compete for a spot, or you arrived needing to learn what you didnโt know. That was the reality.
Who you play for what you learn in MS will propel you or stall you.
