🏒 There are a lot of people teaching Hockey. Very few are actually advancing our understanding of it. John Healy is one of those people that doesn’t mind being first through the wall. A former QMJHL scout, Prep School Coach and now a private NHL Player Development Specialist. Co-founder of Clear Sight Analytics. More importantly, a relentless student of the game. If you’re serious about hockey, this podcast is full of ideas worth adopting into your game, practice and player development. open.spotify.com/episode/0qU…

Pochettino: Many methods are copied. They set up soccer schools in the US & tell kids: ‘Pass the ball from here to there, go back and shoot when you get there.’ That’s not soccer. When we learn, when we relate to the game, it’s with absolute freedom. english.elpais.com/sports/20…

Playoff hockey means tighter checking, heavier pressure, and more detailed structure—reducing time and space all over the ice Last night highlighted several effective rim outs used to relieve defensive pressure, change the point of attack, and extend o zone possession With space so heavily contested, these rims and strong wall play overall are necessities and critical for success

Habs coach Marty St. Louis today on Ivan Demidov: “I’m still learning about Demi. You don’t wanna over-coach players like him…The thing I love about him, he’s such a talented kid. It’s not necessarily about him. He wants to do things to help the team, not necessarily ‘I’m gonna do the things that help me, what I like to do.’ I get the things he likes to do and he’s elite at that.” “I feel like that’s probably the hardest thing for a coach, it’s to convince a high-pick, young player that there’s a whole other game out there to be played besides the game that you like to do that’s gonna benefit the team. That’s what impresses me the most with Demi at his age, to really want to take care of the team, and still finding his own moments that he likes to do. That impresses me.”

🧵THREAD🧵 A quick rush team-play lesson from likely #1 in the 2024 NHL draft, Macklin Celebrini. Every once in a while you see something that catches your eye that showcases a player’s elite awareness and teamwork. This is one.

Cooper - 1st time head coach Bednar - 1st time head coach Brind'Amour - 1st time head coach Tourigny - 1st time head coach St. Louis - 1st time head coach Carberry - 1st time head coach Seems like there might be an advantage to thinking outside of the box a little bit
the average coaching tenure across all 32 teams, after four mid-season changes, is 2.45. there are only three coaches in their current position for 5 years. 21 have been in their current roles for two years or less.

I had an NHL scout call me about a player who had been in my program. First question he asked was “how did he treat his mother and father”. After the usual how did he treat me and his teammates he asked “how did he treat the rink” he grew up in!
KIDS (and parents): This is a must-watch clip from Jay Hardwick, head coach of state champion and elite player factory Warroad Minnesota, on what scouts ask him about regarding his players. “They don’t ask a lot about hockey…”
