Mike Brown was fired four times — twice by the same team. He could have walked away bitter. Instead, he kept learning, kept showing up, and kept believing his story was not finished. Now, he’s a champion. Sometimes rejection is not the end of the road. It is preparation for the right opportunity. Your setback may simply be setting the stage for your comeback.

Coaches, you will never please everyone. So don’t try. Just do the very best you can do and trust that this will be enough. Have confidence in your own commitment and your own character. Trust yourself.

Unpopular opinion… AAU doesn’t need to lead to college basketball to be worth it. For a lot of players today, it’s simply part of becoming competitive enough to play varsity basketball. Not every player is chasing a Division I scholarship. Some are chasing a varsity roster spot. Some want to make the rotation. Some want to help their high school team win. Some just love the game. And that’s enough! I think we’ve become too obsessed with using college basketball as the scoreboard for whether a player’s journey was worth it. What if they never play another organized game after high school? If they loved the practices… loved the tournaments… loved the road trips… loved the teammates… loved competing… Wasn’t that valuable too? Not every basketball journey has to end with a scholarship to be a success. Sometimes success is simply getting better, building friendships, making memories, learning life lessons, and squeezing EVERY DROP out of a game you love. If you’re playing on Court 1 or Court 37, play hard. The love of the game doesn’t care what division you’re headed to. ❤️🏀

A good high school basketball team doesn't need 5 scorers. It needs a floor general, a lockdown defender, and somebody who knows their job is to rebound everything in sight. Roles win games. Superstars are built out of teams that commit to those roles.

Your first job is to connect. Your second job is to coach. If you skip the first step, the second one doesn't matter.

Kids raised in coaching households learn things you can’t teach in a classroom. Resilience.
Teamwork.
Sacrifice.
Character.
Problem-solving. They don’t just watch you coach games.
They watch you lead people. And that lesson lasts forever.

Coaching high school basketball is believing in a group of players before the results show up. It’s seeing more than who they are today. It’s seeing who they can become with guidance, discipline, and confidence. The job is bigger than basketball. Teach effort. Teach attitude. Teach togetherness. You’re building people first, players second. #Coaching #Basketball #Leadership #PlayerDevelopment #cmdcoachinglab
