If you don’t like the Git CLI, this also works in other tools like GitHub Desktop

I think the goal for Codebase has to be user/org owned and controlled repos, etc (canisters) that can decide if and when they want upgrades. In practice I think there’s a lot to figure out there, and a lot of it isn’t specific to Codebase.

This means that when a user tries to push to (or otherwise access) a repository, we can verify that they have permission to do so. By using public key authentication we never expose any sensitive information in requests.

I just cloned a repo from a local version of Codebase where `git clone` seamlessly signed requests with the private key specified in my Git config and then Codebase verified them with the corresponding public key.

Minor update on Codebase: We can now interact with repos at git.codebase.org as well as via the canister URL. Try it out! git clone git.codebase.org/@paul/hello… or git clone w7uni-tiaaa-aaaam-qaydq-cai.…

Codebase solves this by incentivizing contributions, rewarding contributors, and empowering communities through tokenized governance.

The communities around them have both a sense of entitlement and a lack of influence. Despite the demand, maintainers can’t justify working for free and are getting burned out. x.com/LawrenceHecht/status/1…

More than half of maintainers have quit or considered quitting. Those burdened by a lot of open source projects are most likely have quit. The #1 most likely reason to quit, with 60% citing it, was that “other things in my life and work took priority.” buff.ly/3xLHct2

Existing platforms have allowed open source software to be exploited by corporations who have turned it into a source of free labor. Even the most popular projects are failing to meet their sponsorship goals. x.com/FiloSottile/status/146…

This is the maintainer who fixed the vulnerability that's causing millions( ?) of dollars of damage. "I work on Log4j in my spare time" "always dreamed of working on open source full time" "3 sponsors are funding @rgoers's work: Michael, Glenn, Matt" People, what are we doing.

Introducing: Codebase Codebase is a decentralized alternative to platforms like GitHub. Codebase enables a future where incentives are aligned and software development can be sustainable. A future where software communities are empowered instead of exploited.
