It's an expansion of the anti-spam crackdown, which began last November.

They’re just doing this to get a backdoor. Trying to sound smart “that’s by btw powered by Google”. Being powered by Google when Apple implements is different from requiring Apple to sell API access of our data to random companies.
If Apple or Google breach data and privacy protection terms then there 2 to hold responsible not 10s of providers who bought the access to the data
The EU rejects Apple’s blame for the delayed rollout of its AI-enhanced voice assistant, saying it was up to the US tech giant to make products that follow the rules.
“The decision not to roll out Siri AI in the EU is Apple’s and Apple’s only,” says spokesperson Thomas Regnier.

Meta Quietly Added Facial Recognition Code to Its Smart Glasses App
A new WIRED investigation reports that Meta quietly included facial recognition technology in its Meta AI app, which works with Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. The app has been downloaded more than 50 million times.
Researchers found a hidden feature called “NameTag” that can detect faces and create digital face profiles.
They activated parts of the system and received notifications showing a person had been recognized.
Meta says the feature is not available to users and is currently turned off.
The company also says it has not decided whether to launch facial recognition and is not building a central database of faces.
