Yes it can! Community Notes is based on @UsePolis, open source technology deployed by the policy innovation units of three national governments: @TAIWANmoda, @PolicyLabUK and @SitraFund (Finland) Read: wired.com/story/elon-musk-em… via @carljackmiller
This is really neat: Community Notes work because they estimate users' political preferences and upweight notes that are liked by users of all stripes. I wonder if other parts of our democracy could be improved with mechanisms like this. vitalik.ca/general/2023/08/1…

Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil was found dead after hours of searching under rubble. She was killed in an Israeli strike, after the Israeli army fired at ambulances trying to reach her, delaying her rescue. She is the fourth journalist killed by Israel while in the field since 2 March. She was a professional, kind and dedicated journalist, and always a pleasure to run into in the field.

Our warriors have achieved good results in applying long-range sanctions against important facilities on the territory of Russia and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. More than 700 kilometers from our state border, in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, SSU warriors struck an oil facility that was important for the reserves of the aggressor state. Warriors of our army reached their targets in Russia’s Tula region – specifically, the Azot plant, whose operations are critical to explosives production capabilities. Air traffic restrictions were imposed at six Russian airports, and overall, since yesterday evening, 28 regions of Russia have been under air raid alerts. There were also hits on the occupier’s military logistics in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. Ukraine is carrying out its plan of long-range sanctions against Russia and the assigned tasks regarding mid-range strikes in response to Russia’s refusal to end this war. We have offered the Russian leadership every possible format for negotiations – and the only response was continued aggression and attempts to expand it. It stands to reason that the war is coming back to where it came from. Ukraine needs peace. Glory to Ukraine!

A truthful man. Sir Richard Moore about the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service: “I mean, gosh, pound-for-pound they probably knock us into a cocked hat.”
Former MI6 Chief Richard Moore: Without China, Russia would have lost war in Ukraine. North Korean troops and Iranian drones grab headlines. But what keeps Putin in Ukraine is China — chemicals for artillery shells, components for drones and missiles. 1/

Ukrainian attack drones hit a major Russian oil depot in Rybinsk this morning, setting multiple tanks ablaze. Seen here, a Ukrainian attack drone flies towards the already burning Russian depot, descends, and then smashes into another oil tank.

Magyar’s update on how the Birds hunt down enemy assault preparations: Tactical episode. Armor on the battlefield is disposable. Better to burn it before the assault begins – then the assault tends to dissolve on its own. Worm cans are being torched during preparations for assault operations, although finding them sometimes feels like searching for mushrooms in a forest. Myrnohrad, Stakhanov Mine, June 10, 2026. Intelligence indicated preparations for a mechanized assault against the sector held by the 1st Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Azov”. A preemptive inspection of the industrial zone at Stakhanov Mine by fiber-optic FPV pilots of the 4th Battalion, 414th Separate USF Brigade “Magyar’s Birds” ensured that nobody would be going anywhere. Four armored vehicles and half a dozen quadcopters were methodically roasted over the course of about an hour. One company of worms was left preparing instead for the one-way ticket hiking route. That’s how it works. USF Online Dashboard “PIDRAKHUYKA” sbs-group.army/ MAGYAR 🇺🇦 12.06.26

it's not lack of compute that's the issze. it's that in Europe, it's unthinkable to pay a guy in his mid 20s $600k salary and give him resources and freedom to train models without having oversight by a committee of gerontocratic professorswho don't keep up with the research

Btw I believe we have a mostly wrong framing of what could be done in Europe. Italy's Leonardo supercomputer datacenter alone plus Swiss National Supercomputing Centre has more than enough compute to train a very large LLM. It's not something impossible, also there is not magic recipe: it's just scaling, every smart team with the GPUs is doing it. People that fatally believe it is not something within reach are wrong.

I disagree with this decision and I don't like it. But also... HOW DID ANTHROPIC NOT SEE THIS COMING‽ It is *the* obvious response to "this is too dangerous for anyone except us to use", since that relies on a premise ("we are uniquely good") that almost no-one agrees with.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…
