Fried oyster toast from The Publican. Spectacular dish for my first return in a decade.

For more than a decade I've been tracking @sdmts & national surveys of riders about whether they prioritize frequent service over lower fares. Supermajorities routinely voice their preferences for better service. @CirculateSD's law and policy fellow is quoted with our support.

Of course raising transit fares has negative consequences. And of course we should avoid them whenever possible. But if the choice is between raising fares or cutting service, riders themselves want to preserve service. Low income transit riders value their time too!

Read the whole piece below. Advocates who say we should starve the transit agency for the benefit of low income riders are ignoring the overwhelming and longstanding preferences of the low income transit riders themselves. sandiegouniontribune.com/202…

Looks great.
Safely crossing Torrey Pines Road at Glenbrook Way has not always been easy — especially for families or children. (1/3)

Followed the signs for the Great Hall in Chicago's Union Station. Was not disappointed.

Headed to a conference on transportation infrastructure, but storms in Chicago detoured my flight over to St. Louis. Hopped on an Amtrak for the final leg. (Infrastructure!) Hope the train is more storm resilient. ⛈️🚆✈️

Amtrak White Castle is bad. I am withholding judgement about actual White Castle since I haven't yet had the privilege.

A half dozen other refugees from the airport are in the business car with me. One of them brought a bottle of vodka they're sharing. They were all strangers before today, but are having a grand old time. They are, uh, loud. But it's cool.

We had a big win tonight. Thanks to all of our coalition partners and Circulate's policy lead Aria Grossman for leading the fight. Public pressure to do the right thing is how we won this. This will prevent crashes. People will live because of these policy choices.
The FY 2027 budget just passed by the San Diego City Council includes major wins for traffic safety. In addition to funding two of the Vision Zero Coalition’s long standing priorities, it also restores funding to the Multi-Modal team, which was initially slated for elimination.

We made a very deliberate choice to be more aggressive and vocal about the need to fund safe streets this year. It caught some electeds by surprise. But it got the job done. We have a long-standing advocacy model. It's not a secret, you can read it here: circulatesd.org/advocate

It's tough sometimes to have policy disputes among people you like and respect. At the end of the day, defunding a team that saves lives would have been wrong. I'm proud that we said so clearly and persuasively. And I'm grateful for the elected officials who stood up for it.

Enjoyed talking to the campaign interns with Rep. Scott Peters today. Lots of future campaign managers and city council members!

I am thankful to @ColinParent for taking some time today to speak with our student volunteers. His work with sustainable growth, infrastructure, and safe streets is invaluable, and our students appreciated his insights on advocacy, networking, and civic engagement.

Funding pro-housing groups is one of the highest-leverage investments philanthropy can make. Despite all the wins, it is such a wildly underfunded area of work. Could double the funding tomorrow and it would be put to good use.

The pro-homes movement has nowhere near the budget of climate philanthropy But motivated volunteers are a huge lever--Funding a volunteer group to hire their first 3 FTEs leverages pent-up volunteer energy that *looks* 100x larger CAYIMBY's entire budget is like ~6 LIHTC units
