I would think you practice for an hour or so before doing this. Unless he's trying to go viral.

Suburban children suffer for their parents' fears. Mine have 10x social network, stores, parks, rec centers in walking distance. That's before the 12-year-old gets a bus pass this summer. I grew up in burbs, found my way to plenty of crime and drugs. Boredom is the greater risk.

Ramit, I've been with you since '09. Wouldn't leave over this, just want to speak up here for LatAm, the region least likely to remove shoes. Back in the US now, I think those homes refrain from asking us. I like to think they imagine me going Donnie Brasco if they try.

Respectfully skeptical that more expensive flights will move the needle much. Happy to be wrong. Personal experience from LIM is a love-hate relationship with Spirit. I wanted to celebrate its bankruptcy, but I also used it A LOT.
Might sound harsh, but Spirit Airlines shutting down will actually improve the kind of tourists Medellín gets. Super fitting as Medellín is getting serious about discouraging passport bros/sex tourists and bringing in better quality visitors instead. Locals, investors, the city government, and even other expats all agree on this. The change is already happening.

This politically incorrect look at Buenaventura from 1924 reminded me of our resident gringo vallecaucano / chocoano @Scotian82. Hope nobody sues👇

Guy I know around the warehousing scene asked for entrepreneurship advice. I had noticed this guy last year doing what looked like gig work. Driving. He didn’t know I’ve been in business 17 years. He asked what’s the one piece of advice I had for him... #entrepreneurship

Don’t give up means don’t give up your focus. I told him that I’ve had to take real jobs over those 17 years. I’ve had to pay my salary with a credit card! Do what you have to do. Then get back to work. Don’t give up, don’t lose focus.

"Don't give up" may be cliche but there is truth. There's a quote out there (maybe Munger or Naval) that says to stay in your current business / industry for as long as possible. That's the ticket to wealth.

In time, 99 percent go home. I was determined to be the 1 percent. But like everything in life, the adults were always right: KIDS CHANGE EVERYTHING. Staying had become a sacred cow. On the next pod @JakeNomada and I will discuss the case for & against "repatting" for the fam
Been living in LATAM almost a decade… most Americans I’ve met end up back in the US 🇺🇸 Very few make it past 3 years. For most, it’s just a moment to look back on… a reminder of what livin’ really felt like. Then they trade it for a life they can explain… to people who were never thinking about them in the first place.

I did a decade in South America, built a B2C business doing just shy of $2M today, and I endorse this message. If I were starting over, I'd go B2B. Consumers (inc. me) are fickle, frugal, unserious. B2B isn't sexy but it's money.
The guys I know in LATAM… who’ve been running remote businesses for 10 years and doing 1M … almost all have one thing in common: B2B service companies. There are other models that work… but this is the one I see most. They solve real problems for real companies… get paid on repeat and build long-term relationships Not sexy. But it lasts… and compounds over time.

The Culture Shocks of Moving from Peru to the US 🇺🇸 Some of these are true also for us Americans who lived abroad for so long Going from expat to repat, the issue around cars was a big one for me. It sucks having to drive everywhere!

Check out the My Latin Life podcast with Colin from Expat-Chronicles, it was great! 😁 When I first arrived in Bogota back in 2012 there wasn’t much info online about the city for foreign travelers, Colin’s blog was a great resource back then & still is 👍🏻 @MyLatinLife
I did an interview on @MyLatinLife's podcast. We covered expat life before smartphones, being a tiger dad, classism, the gringo bubble, and why Latin America feels so different today. Some of it is politically incorrect. Most of it I haven't written about before. 🧵
