Joey Volchko stole the show in Omaha, Saturday night, in what people thought was going to be the best matchup of the CWS. @BaseballUGA was able to ride Volchko's 15 K complete game performance and hand Texas their sixth straight opening round loss. Day ✌️ may not have lived up to the hype, but we sure saw some impressive performances.

Just because the ballpark might deceive you a little bit — it's tough to pitch in sometimes — but to work under Wes Johnson has been the biggest privilege of my playing career so far."

Interesting tidbit here on Joey Volchko's night: Volchko's strike percentage for the whole season: 61% Volchko's strike percentage tonight: 74% Pure dominance from Volchko.

FINAL Georgia 7 Texas 1 The Joey Volchko Game. He throws a complete game, striking out 15 Longhorns along the way as he turns in his best start of the season at the most perfect time. Rylan Lujo went yard and drove in three in the win as Georgia will face off with Oklahoma on Monday night. Texas their sixth straight CWS Opening Round loss. They started sloppily, but to be fair, I do not think they were going to get more than one vs Volchko.

Bottom 8th, Georgia bats with a 7-1 lead over Texas. A full-count leadoff walk is followed by a popup to 2b, a swinging strikeout, and a fly ball to RF that ends the inning. To the 9th we go.

Top 8th, Texas bats, now trailing Georgia 1-7, and gets a leadoff single. A ground ball to SS is momentarily bobbled and nixes a double play, but the throw to 1b is still in time for the out. A swinging strikeout makes two away, and a ground ball to 1b unassisted ends the half inning.

Bottom 7th, Georgia bats, already with a 4-1 lead over Texas. An error and a wild pitch gets the leadoff batter to 2b. A fielder’s choice safe call is challenged by Texas but upheld on review. A double into the LF corner scores a run and outs two more in scoring position with no outs. Texas backs off from infield in to halfway, and a dropped swinging strikeout is thrown down in time with no advance by the runners. A single down the RF line drives them in anyway, and it’s 7-1 Georgia. Texas will change pitchers, and similar to this afternoon’s game, the early leader begins to pull away late. A single to RF is followed by a stolen base that puts two more in scoring position, but a pair of swinging strikeouts end the inning. Georgia adds three, though, and doubles its lead.
