Tributes have been paid to a police officer who was found dead at her home in Yorkshire earlier this month.
Sergeant Coleen Mellor was found at her home in Horbury, in Wakefield, on January 15.
West Yorkshire Police said it was “saddened” to share the news of her death, while West Yorkshire Police Federation said she was a popular colleague who will be “much missed”.
Sgt Mellor joined West Yorkshire Police as a member of staff in 2007, before becoming a police constable in 2019, initially working in the Wakefield area.
In March 2024, she moved to Leeds on being promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Jones said: “Coleen was well-respected and valued by all those who knew and worked with her.
“Her death has come as a great shock to everyone at West Yorkshire Police, and my thoughts remain with Coleen’s family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”
West Yorkshire Police said her death is not being treated as suspicious, and specially trained officers are supporting her family and colleagues.
A statement from West Yorkshire Police Federation said: “All at West Yorkshire Police Federation are devastated to report the off duty death of our colleague Sgt Coleen Mellor last week.”
“Our thoughts are with her family, friends and close colleagues at this time and we are supporting them as best as we can.”
“Coleen will be remembered on the Wakefield and Leeds district teams as a popular colleague and she will be much missed.”
