Brace yourself. One of the most brutal Arctic cold outbreaks on record is gathering momentum and moving through North America right now. Wind chills are hitting extremely dangerous levels of -70°F (-57°C) in Wyoming.

636 fossil fuel lobbyists are at #COP27 right now. 200 of them are on government badges. This industry is the top cause of the climate crisis. They do not want to solve it, they want to profit from it. We need a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty. bbc.com/news/science-environ…

Recently I learned about a man who has trained 1,000 people to block wind and solar projects. I read through all his training materials, presentations, and seminars. Here's what I learned about him and how his students plan to "win the war on clean energy." 🧵

Has anyone ever seen this graph in $*volume-terms (ideally per year and also with fossil energy)?

Will the commodity pyramid invert in value terms before the "party" ends? (Need to update it, this one is from 1998; the one quoted is in tonnes.) Reminder: rare earth minerals that are crucial for RE have a market size 200X smaller than the oil market. x.com/gordonschuecker/status…

@BrankoMilan is rightly scathing: "Now, we are to believe that “friend-shoring” is somehow different. It is not. It just mercantilism under a new name and trade blocs in a different costume." Let’s go back to mercantilism and trade blocs! open.substack.com/pub/branko…

Van Valen founded his own journal, Evolutionary Theory, in 1973, and used it partly to air grievances and seek revenge. It is an amazing repository of evolutionary insights and snark (plus an attack on journal publication fees of as much as $25!). mn.uio.no/cees/english/servi…
