Our community has composted 11M lbs of food waste since 2017. The environmental equivalent of planting and growing 35,000 trees for 10 years. While we're on the subject—we're also planting thousands of trees every year. Very proud of our green, clean, beautiful DC.

Update: Department of Public Works says Office of Contracts is still contracting w the dump truck company District Logistics on "emergency" to manage farmers market compost. Move comes after contract appeals board said it should terminate its contract with District Logistics.

Thx for your take on this, @rosenamy. Probably won’t surprise you to know that we still have not heard anything on next steps from @DCOCP. Crickets. Meanwhile, #compost dropoff continues with the vendor that the CAB specifically instructed OCP to terminate. Sigh. SMH.

What a story from @amanduhgomez, and I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. A local compost company lost a contract with DC, to a company with no history in composting. The DC Contract Appeals Board's recent decision overturning the contract is wild. Here's some excerpts:

The District also may not be following its own contracting rules and standards: according to the solicitation for the compost transport contract, the company must have at least three years of experience managing food waste drop off and/or compost hauling, in addition to a working relationship with three clients that can attest to its food waste management. Brosowsky doubts District Logistics meets this special criteria, based on his research into the company and its owner’s visits with Agricity. So he filed a protest with the Contract Appeals Board when his company was not awarded the contract in January. “Such a lack of experience creates significant risk that the program will suffer from unsatisfactory performance and may possibly fail,” Brosowsky’s filing reads.
