As the husband of a sternman, I can confirm this.
A sternman is a sternman and a lobsterman is a lobsterman, no matter who is wearing the gear. bangordailynews.com/2023/05/…

24.9% - that's the area of ocean floor on Earth that has now been mapped to "modern standards". The new figure was released this morning by Prince Albert of Monaco at the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Assembly. An additional 5.4 million sq km of new data - equating to an area twice the size of Argentina - was added in the past year. A good part of this is previously proprietary data being released into @gebcobathymetry @seabed2030 database. Coloured in red is the additional area. When the quest to assemble a comprehensive map of Earth's ocean floor was begun in 2017, the quoted number was just 6%. So, rapid progress has been made, but to put the lack of knowledge about our own planet in context - when the new seamount catalogue was published last month it included over 19,000 newly discovered undersea volcanoes. Think about that - 19,000 mountains on Earth that we previously didn't know about.

Thinking about the National Review blogger who spent the whole day writing a post explaining why Harlan Crow paying for Clarence Thomas’s kid’s tuition is Super Cool and Legal, and now has to deal with Leonard Leo being like “GIVE GINNI THOMAS THIS SACK OF CASH, NO FINGERPRINTS”
Exclusive: Conservative judicial activist Leonard Leo arranged for the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be paid tens of thousands of dollars for consulting work nearly a decade ago, specifying that her name be left off billing paperwork. wapo.st/3LzCGpM

Dear friends, CHECK YOUR FIRE ALARMS. Motivated by the devastating loss of an Aspen Institute colleague to an apartment fire over the weekend, I did. Three of them are nearly 10 years out of date, and weren't making *any noise* at all. Don't be me. Check your alarms.

It was six years ago, and my mate, Pink, had just been told he was going to die. He accepted the news with a grace I can only marvel at, but he said he’d a list of things he’d still like to do. We sat in a pub one night and read it over. Eight things? Four months? Ok. Deal. 🧵

Fair seas and following winds, Dr. Shah. I hope DC treats you as well as you treated #Maine. ❤️🦞💉

I never thought I’d say this after the 4 WS titles and the promise of this core in 2018. But the combo of awful personnel management & inability to watch in-market games on non-cable tv outlets means I now have exactly zero interest in the @RedSox. I’m out.
This, plus the complete inability of cord-cutters like me to watch any regular season games thanks to @MLB’s inane broadcast policies. Having in-market games only available on a network one can only get with a cable or satellite subscription in 2022 is fanbase malpractice.

Sometimes I wonder how I went from a diehard Red Sox fan to a more casual fan to someone who maybe watches one televised non playoff game a year and then I see what they’re doing with Xander and I’m like oh yeah that tracks
