I don't think the metaverse idea is the issue at all. I actually love the concept of different games and experiences being connected through one platform.
My problem is the current state of UGC content and how payouts are managed. Right now, someone can buy a map, follow a tutorial, or make a slightly modified version of an existing concept and, if they're lucky, earn thousands of dollars.
I'm also tired of seeing AI-generated thumbnails and low-effort experiences filling up Discovery. Epic can recommend them to me a thousand times, but I'm never going to open them. I primarily play Fortnite for Battle Royale, and I don't need to see endless variations of Red vs Blue every time I browse.
I'm 20 years old. I don't want to see experiences that are clearly designed for 5-year-old Roblox players. That's not the reason I open Fortnite.
I think Discovery should have more filtering options so players can choose what kinds of experiences they want to see or just remove all UGC content from my screen whatsoever.
It's also a topic that many UGC creators and large creators rarely discuss because the current system benefits them financially. I'm not saying all UGC content is bad, because there are some incredible creators out there, but I'm speaking purely from the perspective of a player and my own experience using the platform.
