⚠️AMBER WEATHER WARNING FOR WIND.
AND A NAMED STORM ⚠️
⚠️The Met Office has issued an AMBER WEATHER WARNING FOR WIND from Saturday 0300 until 2100 ⚠️
The next Storm has been named Storm
#Darragh (pronounced Da-ra) for the weekend, and on top of this, we have an AMBER WEATHER WARNING WIND, with the Yellow warning for wind remaining in effect from Friday morning until 0600 on Sunday morning.
A period of very strong northerly or northwesterly winds is likely to develop on Saturday as Storm Darragh moves from west to east. Gusts of 70 to 90 mph are likely around exposed coasts and headlands where some very large waves are likely. Whilst gusts of 60 to 70 mph are likely inland. The strongest winds will ease from the west on Sunday.
Gales to storm Force 10 is very likely on Saturday, bringing the risk of trees been blow down and possible damage to people's properties, too, and if you have Christmas decorations outside, it might be time to make sure they are strapped down well or, if possible, put them inside until Monday!
Don't forget to keep an eye out for our YouTube video later today, all about this weather event.
If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea as well as having rocks, stones and other debris within. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on the lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
Driving in these conditions can be dangerous, for yourself and other road users. If you must drive, you can do this more safely by taking the following actions; drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts and crosswinds, be aware of high-sided vehicles/caravans on more exposed roads and be cautious when
overtaking and giving cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries, and buses more room than usual.
Kind regards
