⚠️VERY HIGH POLLEN COUNT ALERT ⚠️ Good morning everyone, Before you head off to work, school, walk the dog, check the surf, or simply venture out for that all-important morning coffee, there is one thing that many of us will be battling this week... and it isn't the weather. It's pollen. Unfortunately, it looks like much of this coming week will see HIGH levels of both grass pollen and weed pollen across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. While the recent sunshine, warmth and light winds have been very welcome for many, they have also created near-perfect conditions for pollen production. If you're a hay fever sufferer, you may already know the signs. The sneezing fits that arrive out of nowhere, itchy eyes that feel like you've spent the night chopping onions, and that constant battle of trying to work out whether it's a summer cold or simply nature declaring war on your sinuses. Grass pollen is currently the main culprit and tends to peak during the morning and early evening. Even on cloudier days, pollen can remain airborne and travel many miles on the wind, so don't assume a lack of sunshine means relief is on the way. Some useful tips include keeping windows closed during peak pollen periods, wearing sunglasses outdoors to help protect your eyes, and changing clothes after spending long periods outside. It won't stop the pollen completely, but every little helps when the atmosphere is trying to make you sneeze your way through the day. On a more positive note, air pollution levels are expected to remain LOW across most of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly today. The fresh airflow moving across the region is helping to keep pollutants well dispersed. However, there could be a few localised pockets of MODERATE air pollution around some of the busier roads, towns and urban areas, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours. For most people, this won't cause any issues, but those with respiratory conditions may notice the difference. So while the air quality is generally behaving itself, the pollen certainly isn't! More weather, pollen and air quality updates throughout the day. Kind regards, KWT Dave

Good morning everyone, Have you looked up at the sky this morning and noticed those beautiful rippling cloud patterns stretching across the heavens? If so, you've been lucky enough to spot what is known as a Mackerel Sky. The name comes from its resemblance to the scales on a mackerel fish, with rows of small white cloud patches creating a striking wave-like pattern across the sky. It's one of nature's most impressive displays and certainly one that catches the eye when you're out and about around Cornwall. These clouds are usually made up of Cirrocumulus or Altocumulus clouds forming high up in the atmosphere. They develop when atmospheric waves create ripples in layers of moist air, much like the waves you see rolling across the sea. The result is the beautiful textured pattern many of us have been seeing today. Historically, sailors and fishermen paid close attention to mackerel skies. Long before weather apps, satellites and radar, they relied on what they could see overhead. There is even an old weather saying: "Mackerel sky and mares' tails, make tall ships carry low sails." This old rhyme suggests that a change in the weather could be on the way, often indicating that a weather front is approaching. While it doesn't always mean rain is imminent, it can sometimes be a sign that conditions are becoming more unsettled over the next 12 to 48 hours. And before anyone starts typing furiously in the comments... It's not HAARP. It's not geoengineering. It's not secret weather control. It's not aircraft spraying mysterious substances into the atmosphere. ✅ It is simply a naturally occurring cloud formation that meteorologists and weather enthusiasts have been observing for hundreds of years. Nature is more than capable of producing spectacular sights without any help from conspiracy theories! So if you've managed to capture a photo of today's mackerel sky, feel free to share it in the comments below. We'd love to see your pictures from around Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Sometimes the atmosphere puts on a better show than any television programme ever could. Smudge & Gus Weather Verdict Smudge spent several minutes studying the clouds from the windowsill before deciding they looked suspiciously like fish scales and therefore deserved his full attention. Gus, meanwhile, heard the word "mackerel," got excited about the possibility of breakfast, then looked disappointed when he realised it was just clouds. Both cats award today's sky display a very respectable 4.5 paws out of 5.

⚠️ HIGH POLLEN LEVELS TODAY ⚠️ Good morning everyone, If you've stepped outside this morning and immediately sneezed three times, rubbed your eyes and wondered why your nose has suddenly decided to become a leaking tap, you're certainly not alone! Today's pollen levels across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are sitting at HIGH for grass pollen and MODERATE for weed pollen, meaning hay fever sufferers may be in for a bit of a battle with nature today. Grass pollen is currently the main culprit and, unfortunately for many of us, June is one of its favourite months. The combination of longer daylight hours, recent rain, and now drier conditions is helping grasses release large amounts of pollen into the air. While the countryside may be looking lovely and green, your nose may have a very different opinion on the matter! Common symptoms today may include: • Sneezing fits that arrive out of nowhere. • Itchy or watery eyes. • Runny or blocked noses. • The feeling that you've somehow developed a cold in the middle of summer. And just a little heads-up for tomorrow... ⚠️ SUNDAY POLLEN LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO BE VERY HIGH ⚠️ So if you suffer from hay fever, it may be worth making sure you've got your medication handy, sunglasses at the ready and perhaps avoid hanging around freshly cut grass unless you enjoy challenging your sinuses to a duel. 🌿 AIR POLLUTION UPDATE 🌿 The good news is that air pollution levels are expected to remain LOW across the whole of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly today. A gentle breeze and generally clean Atlantic air will help keep pollution levels down, so while the pollen may be causing problems, the air quality itself remains good. So today it's a bit of a strange weather combination: ✅ Low air pollution. ❌ High pollen. The atmosphere has basically decided to be helpful and annoying at the same time! More weather, surf and pollen updates throughout the day. Kind regards, KWT Dave

Good morning everyone, If you've just opened the curtains this morning and found a little mist, fog or even a spot or two of drizzle, don't worry because things are looking much brighter as we head through the day. High pressure is sitting over the Bay of Biscay and western France this weekend, helping to settle things down across Cornwall. The real heat remains over Spain and Portugal, where temperatures are climbing towards a scorching 38°C in places, but we'll happily settle for some sunshine and dry weather after the rather damp and gloomy spell we've had recently. As the morning progresses, any mist and fog patches will gradually clear away, revealing a good amount of sunshine, some fair-weather cloud and, yes, those blue skies we've almost forgotten existed. It may take a little while in a few coastal locations, but the sunshine should prevail in most areas. Temperatures this morning are generally sitting between 12°C and 17°C, climbing to a pleasant 15°C to 20°C this afternoon. A northwesterly breeze of 10 to 30mph will keep things feeling fresh around the coastline, but inland spots should feel very pleasant in the June sunshine. ☀️ A couple of things to keep in mind today: UV levels are HIGH, so even though it doesn't feel exceptionally hot, the June sunshine is strong enough to catch you out surprisingly quickly. Pollen levels are also HIGH, particularly for grass pollen, meaning hay fever sufferers may want to keep tissues and antihistamines close at hand. Meanwhile, the all-important KWT Washing Line Rating scores a perfect: 4/4 PAWS After what feels like weeks of dodging showers, today is definitely a day to get the washing outside and let nature do the hard work. Looking ahead to Sunday, the good news continues with another fine day expected. Sunshine will once again be the main feature, mixed with a little fair-weather cloud, and temperatures could reach 15°C to 22°C, perhaps a touch higher in sheltered inland spots. So whether you're heading to Murdoch Day in Redruth, the Falmouth Sea Festival, spending the day at the beach, enjoying the garden or simply catching up on jobs outdoors, the weather is looking much more cooperative than it has been recently. Smudge & Gus Weather Verdict Smudge has already relocated to the brightest patch of sunshine in the house and is refusing to move unless snacks are involved. Gus remains slightly suspicious after recent false promises from the weather, but has cautiously approved today's forecast and is preparing for a full afternoon of professional sunbathing. Their verdict: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ 5/5 Paws "At last... weather worthy of a proper cat nap." Kind regards, KWT Dave

Good afternoon everyone, Below is the latest image showing the Saharan dust plume high up in the atmosphere, and it looks as though it will be hanging around until at least next week. Today the concentrations are fairly low, so many of us probably won't notice much difference. However, as we move through the weekend, there is a greater chance of seeing those milky or hazy skies that can make the sunshine look a little washed out. You may also notice a fine layer of dust on cars, windows, garden furniture and anything else left outside long enough for Cornwall's atmosphere to leave you a little "gift." One of the more spectacular effects of Saharan dust is the impact it can have on sunrises and sunsets. Tiny dust particles scatter the sunlight, often producing deep orange, red and even purple colours, particularly when the sun is low on the horizon. So if you're out early in the morning or enjoying an evening stroll along the coast, keep an eye on the sky because there could be some beautiful displays on offer. Now, before a few people jump into the comments claiming it's geoengineering, cloud seeding, secret government dust deliveries or Dave personally shaking out a giant bag of sand over Cornwall, let's stick with the boring scientific explanation! This dust has travelled thousands of miles from the Sahara Desert in North Africa, carried northwards by weather systems and upper-level winds. It happens several times each year and has been occurring for centuries, long before social media existed to argue about it. In fact, Saharan dust plays an important role in the natural world. It helps fertilise parts of the Atlantic Ocean and even provides nutrients to the Amazon Rainforest thousands of miles away. It's one of nature's remarkable examples of how connected our planet really is. So if your car ends up looking like it's been parked on a beach, don't blame the neighbours, don't blame the council and definitely don't blame the weather forecaster. This one belongs to the Sahara! More updates soon. Kind regards KWT Dave

Good morning, here's your Friday weather update from Kernow Weather Team. If you've just opened the curtains this morning, you'll probably be greeted by another rather grey and damp start to the day. Despite high pressure slowly building across the southwest, it's not bringing wall-to-wall sunshine just yet. Through much of today, Cornwall will remain under plenty of low cloud with patchy light rain and drizzle affecting some areas. Not everyone will see rain all day, but many places will stay dull, humid and rather gloomy. There may also be some mist and fog patches around this morning, particularly across higher ground and coastal areas. Temperatures this morning are ranging between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius, rising to around 14 to 17 degrees this afternoon. Winds will be from the west to southwest at 10 to 25 miles per hour inland, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour around exposed coasts and headlands. The good news is that as we move through this afternoon, the cloud should slowly begin to thin and break in places, allowing a few brighter spells to develop, although many areas will remain mostly cloudy. Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday may start with a little patchy drizzle in places, but conditions should steadily improve with increasing sunshine developing through the day. Temperatures will reach between 16 and 23 degrees Celsius. Sunday is currently looking like the best day of the weekend, with plenty of sunshine, blue skies and temperatures climbing to between 18 and 25 degrees, warmest across inland parts of Cornwall. So after several damp and gloomy days, summer looks set to make a welcome return this weekend, although there are signs that rain could be back again by Monday. That's your latest weather update from Kernow Weather Team. Have a great Friday.

HIGH POLLEN ALERT FOR CORNWALL & THE ISLES OF SCILLY ⚠️ Good morning everyone, If you've stepped outside this morning and immediately started sneezing, rubbing your eyes or wondering why your nose has suddenly declared war on the rest of your face, you're certainly not alone! Today's pollen levels are sitting at HIGH for Grass Pollen, with Moderate levels of Nettle and other weed pollens also airborne across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Grass pollen is the biggest culprit at this time of year and is responsible for the majority of hay fever symptoms suffered by people across the UK. June is often considered one of the peak months for grass pollen season, as warmer temperatures, longer daylight hours and rapidly growing vegetation combine to release huge amounts of pollen into the atmosphere. The breezy conditions we're currently experiencing can be a bit of a double-edged sword. While the wind helps keep air pollution levels low, it can also carry pollen much further inland, meaning even those living away from fields and grassland may find themselves reaching for the tissues today. The good news is that air pollution levels remain LOW across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly today. The ongoing spell of cooler, unsettled and breezy weather is helping to disperse pollutants effectively, resulting in good air quality for most areas. For hay fever sufferers, sunglasses can help keep pollen out of your eyes, while keeping windows closed during the warmest part of the day may reduce the amount of pollen finding its way indoors. And if you've been drying washing outside, be aware that pollen loves hitching a lift home on freshly dried clothes! So while the atmosphere is doing a great job of keeping pollution levels down, it seems the grass has decided to make itself the main weather story today. 🌾 Pollen Levels: High – Grass Moderate – Nettle Moderate – Weed Pollens 💨 Air Quality: Low across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly More weather, pollen and air quality updates throughout the day. Kind regards, KWT Dave.

THURSDAY POLLEN & AIR POLLUTION UPDATE Good morning everyone, For many allergy sufferers, today's weather may actually bring a little bit of welcome relief. While the umbrellas may need to come out, the rain should help wash some of the pollen out of the air and stop it from travelling quite as far. Today's pollen levels are expected to be MODERATE for Poaceae (Grass) and MODERATE for Nettles across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Grass pollen continues to be the main culprit at this time of year and is often responsible for those itchy eyes, runny noses, sneezing fits and the occasional "I swear I've got a cold" conversation. Nettles are also contributing to the pollen mix, although generally to a lesser extent. The good news is that the wet and unsettled conditions moving across Cornwall today should help suppress pollen levels compared to what we would see on a warm, dry and breezy summer's day. Think of today's rain as nature giving the atmosphere a quick wash and brush-up. 💨 AIR POLLUTION UPDATE 💨 Air pollution levels are expected to remain LOW across all parts of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly throughout Thursday. The bands of rain moving through the county will help remove many airborne particles from the atmosphere, improving air quality and visibility. The fresh Atlantic airflow also prevents pollutants from building up, unlike the settled high-pressure conditions that can sometimes trap pollution close to the surface. So while the weather may not be ideal for a day at the beach, your lungs and your hay fever tablets may be quietly celebrating. Overall, today's weather gets a solid thumbs up for air quality, even if your washing line might strongly disagree. Kind regards, KWT Dave

Good morning everyone, If you've just opened the curtains this morning, looked outside and thought "here we go again," then you're not alone! Much of Cornwall has woken up to a wet, grey and rather gloomy start to the day, with outbreaks of light to moderate rain spreading across the county overnight and continuing through this morning. There are also areas of low cloud, mist and fog around, especially across higher ground and near some coastal areas, making it feel more like an autumn morning than the middle of June. The reason for today's weather is a low-pressure system sitting close to Iceland, which continues to drag weather fronts across Cornwall from the Atlantic. This is also feeding in a cooler Polar Maritime airmass, bringing plenty of cloud, rain and damp conditions. The rain is expected to continue through much of this morning and into the early afternoon, although not everywhere will see constant rainfall. Some locations may catch a break now and then, while others could remain damp for several hours. If you're heading to work, the school run or taking the dog for a walk, the waterproofs will definitely earn their keep today. By this afternoon, the rain should slowly become lighter and more patchy, with the odd brighter spell developing here and there. However, don't expect wall-to-wall sunshine, as there will still be plenty of cloud around. As we head into this evening and overnight, there remains the chance of patchy drizzle, mist and low cloud. Some places may dry out completely, while others continue to sit underneath stubborn grey skies. The good news is that there are still increasing signs that high pressure will attempt to build in from the southwest during the weekend. If it can establish itself strongly enough, we should see a return to drier weather, more sunshine and warmer temperatures. For now, though, the jet stream remains close enough to keep the Atlantic weather train running. We really need it to shift further north towards Scotland to allow high pressure to settle across the UK and finally give Cornwall a proper taste of summer. Until then, it's another day of dodging the showers, drying the dog, and wondering if the washing line has forgotten what sunshine looks like! ☔😂 More updates soon. Kind regards, KWT Dave

🌦️ Wednesday Afternoon, Evening & Overnight Weather Update for Cornwall 🌦️ ⚠️ KWT WEATHER WATCH FOR RAIN ON THURSDAY ⚠️ Good afternoon everyone, It's been another classic Cornwall weather day today! One minute you're enjoying some sunshine, the next you're reaching for the waterproofs, and before you've even found them, the sun is back out again. For the rest of this afternoon, expect a mixture of bright spells, cloudy skies and scattered showers. Some showers will be brief, while others could still be heavy at times. Temperatures will range from 11°C to 16°C, but with a fresh westerly wind of 10-30mph it'll feel noticeably cooler. This evening looks a little quieter for many areas, with longer dry spells developing. There will still be plenty of cloud around along with the odd shower, but many places should enjoy a calmer end to the day. 🌧️ Overnight our attention turns to Thursday. Most places will stay dry during the first half of the night, but from around 2am-3am a band of rain is expected to move in from the west. This will bring several hours of light to moderate rainfall through Thursday morning, with plenty of cloud and some misty conditions developing too. Looking ahead, there are still signs that warmer weather could return towards the weekend, so if you're fed up with the chilly winds and endless shower dodging, don't give up on summer just yet! 🌡️ Temperatures: Afternoon: 11°C to 16°C Evening: 10°C to 14°C Overnight: 9°C to 12°C 💨 Winds: Westerly 10-30mph 🐾 Smudge & Gus Weather Verdict 🐾 Smudge spent the day relocating between sunny patches and warm blankets and has officially given up trying to understand the forecast. Gus ventured outside, got caught in a shower, and returned indoors looking as though someone had personally offended him. Their advice for tonight? Keep the waterproofs handy and blame the jet stream. #Cornwall #CornwallWeather #KWT #WeatherWatch #RainAlert #JuneWeather #CornwallLife #LoveCornwall #WeatherForecast #CornwallUK
