Throughout my career, I've been dismayed by the contempt some genre executives have held for fans, routinely underestimating their power to make or break a show. I've watched this repeat too many times, across too many shows, to be talking about any single one of them. Yet despite the mounting evidence over the past few years, they continue to dismiss the data, repeating the same miscalculations time and again. But technology has rewritten the rules, and the power dynamics are shifting. Today’s fans are organized, strategic, and highly data-literate - effectively turning the platforms' own metrics against them. As the bets get bigger and the audience grows sharper, it will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

RIP Doctor Who Not with a bang… but a whimper.
So as per the BBC & RTD earlier today there will be no 2026 Christmas special & new Who is on hold for now.. Bad Wolf Studios will no longer be the production company, and RTD has finished as Showrunner, it is a time of uncertainty but also a time of hope, the Doctor will return.

Just read about the Stargate cancellation debacle. So dumb. Franchise management isn’t complicated: Make new fans, but keep the old. One is silver, the other’s gold. But somehow they keep choosing: Mock old fans and chase the new, then act surprised when both leave you.

It started so well but apparently, being respectful to the existing fandom while enticing new viewers is not a viable business strategy. There We Are Then….
Stargate fans, a new extraordinary journey is about to begin.

Bean counters must never be given artistic control. They have no clue what art is.
The cancellation of the #Stargate revival by @AmazonMGMStudio is peak out-of-touch executive logic. Former Netflix execs like Peter Friedlander and Blair Fetter killed a fully developed, franchise-respecting show because they claimed it lacked "broad appeal." They are chasing the mythical "Four-Quadrant" hit at the expense of a guaranteed audience. For those outside the entertainment industry, the "Four Quadrants" are the major demographic groups studios use to project an audience: 1️⃣ Males 2️⃣ Females 3️⃣ Under 25 years old 4️⃣ Over 25 years old A true four-quadrant show appeals to everyone. Modern executives are obsessed with finding these massive, algorithm-driven megahits right out of the gate. If a show doesn't project to hit all four quadrants on day one, they scrap it to chase a wider demographic. The irony? Stargate is one of the rare legacy IPs that already built a four-quadrant audience organically. This isn't just a 14-year TV run; this franchise started with the original movie in 1994. That is over three decades of deep, multi-generational history. It isn't just a niche, hard sci-fi show. It has grounded military action and deep mythology, but it survived on the character-driven, "found family" dynamics that appeal to every gender. It has the dedicated legacy fans who watched it in theaters and live on TV (the Over 25s), and a massive streaming generation that binged the entire franchise online (the Under 25s). You don't buy a legacy IP just to throw it away because it doesn't fit a new spreadsheet metric. It's time to stop ignoring the massive audience standing right in front of you. #SaveStargate #StargateSG1 #AmazonMGM

The power of Stargate below, @AmazonMGMStudio @JeffBezos . Can I suggest you reverse that cancellation decision? We all make mistakes - how about you fix this one. @StargateNow
I started watching SG-1 at age 15. I was the first in the family to start, but one by one they all joined me. Then one day, even my Dad joined. NOTHING on television held my Dad's interest. He never went to the movies. It was the first time I'd ever connected with him in this way. Not long after he started, he came home one day with the first season DVD box set, and the whole family started watching from the beginning. He kept buying the sets, until we caught up with the currently airing show, and then we watched like clockwork as a family every Friday night, with pizza and soda. You have to understand, that is a CRAZY thing to type out about my Dad. He never did stuff like that. He was tough to connect with about something that wasn't mechanical or construction. I can't think of a single other fun thing he did with us that wasn't what a kid would consider "chores" or "work." My siblings and I treasured those Friday nights like nothing else. It was an entirely new experience, having something like that where he would quote the lines to you in the middle of the day (Teal'c lines were his favorite, especially the infamous "undomesticated equines" line). My Dad has been buried for almost 8 years now. My oldest two kids barely remember him and the other two never met him. We recently watched both SG-1 and Atlantis as a family. It's been an emotional ride, sharing this with them yet wishing Grandpa was around to share it with them too. My kids ADORE Stargate. My girls have crushes on Daniel Jackson and John Sheppard. My youngest son wants to BE Jack O'neill. They cried when Daniel ascended the first time. They were over the MOON at the idea of a new series in the works to enjoy. I haven't had the heart to tell them the news that the whole thing has been called off. Save Stargate!

The new #Stargate series was designed to welcome new viewers, respect canon, and satisfy longtime fans. As others (including @BaronDestructo) have pointed out, many of the reasons being floated for its cancellation simply don't hold up. Save it... or release it. #SaveStargate
