Senate Intel Chair Cotton (R-AR) asked unanimous consent to pass legislation extend FISA 702 surveillance authority deadline past Friday's deadline for 3 weeks: "The responsible next step is to have a short-term extension of this legislation, especially as we begin welcoming literally millions of foreigners to this country for the World Cup & for the America 250 celebrations right around the corner. If we don't extend it for at least a few weeks while we continue to work on our differences, the consequences could be severe. The consequences, to be frank, could be fatal. Wyden (D-OR) objected.

Wyden (D-OR) responded: "The 3-week bill was just defeated in the House on a strong bipartisan vote this morning, so the House is not back until the 23rd. So, my understanding is that you can't do anything. Bipartisan majorities in the House & in the Senate have now rejected, what I consider to be, the surveillance status quo...The only viable path forward is one that leads to real reforms."

Schumer from Senate floor ahead of Friday's FISA 702 deadline: "The whole job of the Director of National Intelligence is to keep America safe, but Trump’s decision to appoint Bill Pulte, someone with absolutely zero relevant experience, is going to put Americans in danger. Let me repeat, America, we are in danger."

Schumer: "No one in their right mind would trust Bill Pulte, a person nicknamed 'little Trump' by his administration colleagues, to speak truth to power, conduct objective analysis, and resist efforts to politicize the intelligence community. In a job where facts are so important, and the President knowing the real facts is so important, to have this man who has no fidelity to facts in this job, again, is very dangerous to the American people. Trump and Republicans need to put an adult in the room. Bill Pulte is not the man for the job, and my Republicans colleagues know it."
