What a horrible look for Cody Campbell, Ken Paxton, Texas Tech’s President and Board, and the rest of the Texas Tech administration. Not even the Lubbock Walmart has enough towels to wipe all the egg off their faces.
Sources: Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby plans to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. Amid the legal wrangling over his NCAA eligibility after admitting he bet on sports, he intends to head to the NFL.

There is a lot of “Paraguay isn’t very good” talk. Full stop. Under Alfaro, they lost just once in WCQ and went 9 straight without defeat. They beat URG, Brazil, & Argentina. They were one of the best defensive teams in the 🌎. Paraguay isn’t bad. #USMNT made them look bad.

Oof.
Friendly reminder, he himself voted to rescind the NCAA policy change last year that would have allowed athletes to legally bet on pro sports.

Athletes can't bet on sports. Period.. If you want to bet on sports, stop competing as an athlete. This is a very simple concept. We all know this.

He knew the rules and he chose to break them. The ease of which he could is wholly irrelevant. The PR of Texas Tech in all of this has been impossibly bad. Just astounding how terribly they’ve handled everything.

All the people defending Brendan Sorsby by saying he never bet on his own team to lose seem to be overlooking the fact that he bet on unders for Indiana's passing yards and points scored while he was on the team. That is effectively the same thing as betting against your team.

Now that players are getting paid, there really is no way around a CBA as far as fixing issues with the sport long term.
It’s fine if you disagree with today’s ruling in Brendan Sorsby’s case. But the solution isn’t a new federal law giving the NCAA the antitrust exemption it craves. It’s collective bargaining, with the players treated as employees and the employees represented by a union.

Every single vacated title must be restored and every individual award stripped must be reinstated. Immediately. Today.
Remember when Reggie Bush once had to forfeit the Heisman Trophy for accepting improper benefits from agents (a rent-free home) and USC had to vacate a national title?

The reasoning for the injunction is not quite right. The order says that Sorsby is likely to prevail on his breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty claims. He's following the same path that Chambliss did, who also got a preliminary injunction arguing that the NCAA was not applying its by-laws consistently and in good faith. The Sorsby order is frustratingly short - it does not say WHAT about the by-laws was unfairly applied. The below screenshot is all that the court said on that subject. The order also places a series of conditions on Sorsby's eligibility such as continued counselling AND imposed a two-game suspension to the start the season. That's right...a local, state judge decided how the NCAA should have enforced its by-laws.
