I stand on business.
Endorsing a long-shot candidate for FL governor would hurt his 2028 chances.
He will only endorse if someone picks up significant momentum.

I’m not sure where someone would argue it’s analytically smart for @RonDeSantis to simply sit on the sidelines in an election that is quite literally about whether the Florida model he created survives after he leaves office.
The premise seems to be that preserving optionality for 2028 requires preserving distance from 2026. But that assumes the model itself remains intact regardless of who inherits it.
A large part of DeSantis’ political capital exists because voters see him as someone willing to fight for what he believes in rather than calculate around every risk. If he believes one candidate is better positioned to preserve the governing approach that produced Florida’s successes, there is a strong argument that his incentives point toward engagement, not being neutral in the race.
A lot of the pontificating on this comes from people who couldn’t tell you what DeSantis is going to do tomorrow, let alone map some elaborate decision-tree matrix of his political calculus years in advance. The truth is simpler: if this race is about succession, legacy, and whether the Florida model survives intact, then sitting it out is not some obviously brilliant strategic play, it’s dumb.
