Never too late to add to the #PhD on how we remember the #FWW
Long over due check in with Prof Dan Todman this week he reminded me: PT PhD = longer x life events Leaving the Army a big thing that takes time to resolve Starting a new career is stressful and probs has taken priority (rightly) Chipping away is good, milestones are better

We talked about my thesis on the Power People and Politics of the Centenary of the #FWW. As good historians there was the odd side track - including ephemera - for his new research - but also the craft, labour and volunteering of the Centenary. I had the bug again for sure 2/3

Finally we talked about knitting and it’s accessibility and it’s appeal to community and local projects. Sure enough Ripon didn’t disappoint this week.

Grave robbery in #WWI: The grave of Canadian Captain William Durie in Toronto. Captain Durie was killed in France in December 1917 and initially buried in Loos British Cemetery. When his mother Anna was unsuccessful in lobbying for his body to be returned to Canada, she took matters into her own hands. On the night of 25th July 1925 she stole into the cemetery, dug up her son's remains and returned to Canada with them hidden in a suitcase. She had them reburied in the family plot in August, in the only known instance of such a forcible repatriation from the First World War. linktr.ee/matmclachlan

Thur #PhD supervision I was anxious because there’s been a lot of life in 6 months and not much room for PhD After an hour talking through with @daniel_todman felt more “on it” than ever. Part time PhD is nails. x2 as long x4 worth of life Thanks Dan

Everyone is surprised we can’t have a national conversation about power, water, transport, education and health. Forgetting we *intentionally* created a nation of nations for the last 500 years or so. The vocality of our islands is local, not national. Plenty of friction.
Love this digitisation.

At @3pillarsproject we build partnerships and teams to create better outcomes for young people. We go further together to create a criminal justice system that can prevent reoffending and everything that comes with it. Great write up of what we do. hmppsinsights.co.uk/nacro-go…

This is a really good listen. Stunning sound track, well researched, plenty of moral dilemmas in there too. #TheBomb bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p08mdy…
